My beautiful lady Treacle is having to go back to the vets again :( :( :(
I woke up this morning to find blood in the hutch, and deduced it was from Treacle based on the placements (I know where she likes to sleep!). She is bleeding from the genital area and is obviously ill in some way - not that you'd tell the way she's nomming down on hay in the carrier right now!

Please please PLEASE send your love and hugs for my Treacle. I am absolutely heartbroken and I really hope she will be OK. x

Loads of vibes to Treacle, hope all goes well x x

Thank you, I'm clearly much more upset than she is! She hasn't stopped eating hay since she got in the carrier, and she's pooping fine. Sitting waiting at the vets now, hoping all will be fine. Bernadette looked lost without her, she was sniffing the blood spots and climbing looking for her :(

Hopefully, you'll get some answers. It's horrible when you have to seperate piggies, I feel ever so guilty when we do it occassionally.
Let us know what vet says x

Well we got a fantastic vet (one of the practice's surgeons who clearly knew her stuff!) who gave Treacle a thorough check over. She is definitely bleeding from her genital area, and has given her Baytril for a UTI or possible cystitis. If it doesn't clear up when the medicine course is over, then I'm to bring her back for an X-Ray, just in case it's bladder stones. She couldn't feel any, but if I need to do it, I will.
The other potential was much less likely, but she's advised checking her over every day just in case she has a vaginal polyp or if anything prolapses. The vet (Romily Haslam, veterinary surgeon from Minster Veterinary Practise in York) was very thorough and although Treacle was squealing like crazy (louder than I've ever heard!), I trusted her to take care of her. Treacle is a healthy weight of 950g and is just relaxing now in the carrier.

I've been recommended to isolate her over the weekend to check on what she's passing, changing the bedding every day - if there's no more blood by Monday, then she'll be fine to go back with Bernadette. :)

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery :)

Hope the AB's clear up her infection. Lots of healing vibes to Treacle x x

same as SB's x

(ill never forget the sound of my Pepper (rip) squeaking when they took him off and squeazed and prodded and poked him it haunts me)

Good luck Treacle x

Oh it was heartbreaking, her little ears drooped like a sad doggy and her little mouth went crazy :(
She'll be close to Bernadette (actually, she'll be above her most likely!) so she'll have a little wheeking company :) Plus it means she gets lots of cucumber so I'm sure she won't mind :P

Poor little baby. I really hope it is just an infection and soon clears up.

Well she's in the 'hospital cage' now, pushed right up next to Bernadette so they can still see each other. Bernadette came straight up to the edge and starting climbing/nibbling for Treacle, and I'm hoping that will help them both.
There is still some blood coming through (of course), little spots by the water bottle. When she bled she obviously didn't like it and ran away to the hidey hole - she'd scared herself! But she's eating and drinking brilliantly, despite hating her medication.

I've left a lovely, long detailed note for my OH 'To Daddy, from Treacle :)' She's written her own care note on how to keep her happy while I'm at work :p

Well I have a very upset little lady, she's still bleeding a fair amount but obviously the antibiotics need a little while to take effect. Tried to sweeten the deal with a little cranberry juice but she must be the only piggie that doesn't like it! I diluted some down and syringed her a little, to her disgust :p

I mopped up a large amount for a little piggie stuck on her fur, it's still fresh but she doesn't appear to be in any discomfort and is still her normal self :)) There were 4 spots on the towel full of blood :( I wish I could do more for her :(

Awww... poor little thing. I hope the antibiotics kick in for her. We recently went through a UTI with one of our girls, though it sounds like you have more blood to clean up than we did (we just had patches of dark, discoloured pee and a pig who obviously felt sick and just wanted to law on her side in the corner.) We did see a big difference in how well she felt after 24-48 hours on antibiotics. And yes, it is awful to hear them squeal when the vet checks them out- when the vet was palpating her bladder to feel for stones, Linney was crying and it broke my heart!

Well that's the strange thing - if she wasn't bleeding you wouldn't know she was ill! She is hiding more than normal, but she's still wheeking for food, pooping (though a little less - don't know whether she's eating them instead!) climbing the bars and drinking healthily and messily as always! She's just lovely though and has such a sweet temperament. I just she didn't protest syringing so much, it does make it hard!

I have the exact same situation with Pebbles she is passing loads of blood however if I never found the blood I wouldn't know there was anything wrong,

I hope our ladies get better soon! x

Me too, you've been through the ringer with your piggies too!
I felt so guilty for seperating them, but I tried to keep them as close as possible: this is the result when they miss each other :)

Aww bless, poor dears do miss each other don't they? Hope she feels better soon! (Not that she sounds like she feels TOO awful, luckily!)

Update: she still hates the medicine, but she peed while she was on my lap and it was clear of blood! No spots or heavy bleeding in the hutch or in her fur, and she's happy :)) Yay! Hoping this means it's just an infection and the antibiotics will make it go away :))

Update day 3: Treacle seems to be improving, but the past 2 days she has been bleeding only late at night, before her 2nd dose of medicine. She still has 2 more days to go, so if she's still bleeding she'll be back Wednesday morning :(
Still can't send her back home despite every other aspect being perfect! She's quite lethargic but I'm pretty sure I would be too!

Update day 4: Treacle was clear yesterday! Made me so happy, this is a positive sign for the future :) If she stays clear today then she can go home to Bernadette :)

Aaaaaaah, and I thought it was over!

Gone over to ladypigs' hutch to find red spotting on the woodshavings, but no discernable sight as to which piggie it was, despite inspecting Treacle and Bernadette thoroughly. I went for a shower and when I came back, there was a blood streak over the top of a climby-hidey - I know only Treacle can get up there. Picked her up again to find her bleeding again, and wiped off a small amount of what felt like sludge, dark red in colour, from her ladyparts :( :( :(

We still have some Baytril from last time she had her UTI, which the emergency vet has advised we put her back on straightaway. The facilities to X-Ray won't be available until Monday when the practise opens again, so this is the best I can do for now :(

Please send love back to my Treacle-pig and hope it's nothing too serious :(

Sorry to hear Treacle is still poorly. She's going through the wars at the moment. Ruby is currently poorly with a UTI too so she sends her love and knows how Treacle is feeling.
Sending healing wheeks and kisses! xx

She really is going through the wars, and worrying us to no end! She was clear for just over 10 days after the medication stopped which is positive, but I don't know what could be causing it now :( she's eating, drinking and squeaking happily, just bleeding too :(

Healing wheeks and gentle cuddles back for lovely Ruby too x
