Hello I wonder if anyone can put light to my poorly piggie .... she is a five year old girl that has always been happy and healthy... I found her this morning with the Wobblies she is finding walking hard and looks drunk ? The vet checked her back and heart breathing and kidneys no discharge from any where and eating pelleting ok please help .

Hello seems to be all four ! Just checked on her and she's cuddled up with her mate Rosie ... heating on nice and snug ....squeaked a little to my voice

United Kingdom? Why may I ask

We can help you find a cavy savy vet local to you

My first thought would be inner ear infection causing balance problems.

Been to the vet this afternoon all checked and told that she would have had more of a head tilt if it was ear infection ..... was given antibiotics and pain relief but couldn't answer why she was like it ...... just thought someone must have had the same somewhere

Maybe neurological is another thought, please keep a very close eye on her. How long is she on the Antibiotics for? I presume they are Baytril?

@Mrs feegs I've had a couple of pigs that this has happened too. Normal practice is to treat as an infection first.

Which antibiotics did you get? If it's Baytril and you don't see a positive result in a few days go back to the vet and ask for Zithromax.

If you try the Zithromax and don't see any positive results go back again. It could be a neurological problem. The downside to that is that it could be so many different things causing it so it can be quite hard to find out what it is exactly and might take a bit of trial and error.

We tried Panacur on my last pig when we ruled out infection. We wanted to see if it were fungal.

Please keep us updated. I hope your little one gets better soon.

Thank you for your reply that's really helpful to know x

I was also considering whether being based in another country that is hotter than the UK whether heat stroke could have been a possibility as my Peter went very wobbly like that one hot day last summer but I think it's very unlikely in the UK at the minute

E-Cuniculli is also a possibility, has she been near rabbits at all? I think that she would have a head tilt with that too though but worth mentioning. Treatment is usually with a wormed like Panacur.

Hello no she is not near any rabbits .... her and Rosie live in a cage in a shed they have light fresh breeze and radiator at night if it's cold. She is eating today but seems very vague again but squeaked at my voice this morning .... still wobbly on her legs .... meds given ok so cross fingers .... cuddles given just seems still and off ..... Rosie on the other hand is happy well and charging about for her treats!

Oh I see .... no we are in Cornwall by the sea!

Five days of antibiotics Baytril and a pain killer .

Don't say that, I'm really jealous now. Must be wonderful to be by the sea.
Ha ... we moved from Kent to Cornwall a few years ago .... this was our holiday home and the piggies always came to. So funny them sitting together in their box being cooled by a/c on and a nice bit of music ! They were fine .... they are a real part of the family ..... I really hope she pulls through but she is well over 5

She might of had a stroke - we thought this about my rabbit, days before he died as he was doing the same.
