Hi,
Ive heard people who have guinea pigs in their kitchen :o Isnt this a bit dirty ? Think of the germs and hairs and meals etc - Personally i think its gross but in other minds i think its ok as people have dogs etc but an animal in a cage in your kitchen especially on the worktops

Whats peoples views on this ? I dlike to know ? :D

I do bath mine in the kitchen sink then give them a blow dry on the kitchen table. I then wash everything down once I am finished with disenfectant. I had my piggies in the house all winter last year in the living room they do not smell and it was lovely to see them all the time. Now their in the shed thats fully insulated and will be heated too. But I have some grids on the way to me so I will have one group in at a time during the winter months.

OoOoOoh where do you work i need some ;D
We dont give anything to the public but as I work there it gets put in the rubbish bin, so I can just take it home if its there ;) they dont even know what its called ;D it part of the packaging on the products that come in to be sold ;)

I often have pigs in my dining room (kitchen is too small). My indoor pigs are always cleaned out often & their cages disinfected & scrubbed at least once a week. Well my outdoor hutches are too. My pigs are regularly bathed too. Only poorly kept pigs would cause a problem in a kitchen in my honest opinion.

When Nutmeg hurt her foot we cleaned it all up on the kitchen table.

Technically the guinea pigs aren't meant to sit in the kitchen, but somehow Sevi just managed to sneak into there the other day for a cuddle and to sit on the table on newspaper...I wonder how she got away with that... :smitten:

I spray the table afterwards with disinfectant. All the hairs get thrown out with the newspaper so I don't think it's too unhygenic, it would be different if I'd let her sit all over the worktops. (My pet hate is when cats sit on worktops after having gone to the loo -yuck!)

my guinea pigs once stayed in my dining room but now stay in the living room,, hubby often turns the tv off just so he can listen to all their noises,, my guinea pigs are bathed in the kitchen sink,, and dried on a work top but everything is thoroughly disinfected afterwards anyway.. as are the cage and any thing GP

I keep some of our guineas in the kitchen, and they are fine....

They are a lot tamer then them being outside, they get lots of attention, more confident, and arent just left in a horrible cold hutch outside and forgotten, which is sadlywhat happens to a lot! :(

My piggies permanently live in our living room - it's a big room so I get away with it. The cage is thoroughly cleaned out 2-3 times a week and my many visitors say there's no smell, apart from the hay which seems to be quite strong (and as we all know, not unpleasant).

I do the same thing as Pumpkinpiggies when it comes to bathtime, it's all done in the kitchen and scrubbed down afterwards.

As for keeping piggies in the kitchen, as long as the room is big enough (my kitchen is super tiny!) and everything is kept clean and tidy, I don't really see a problem, to be honest.

My piggies live in the dining room off of the kitchen, its now called the 'Animal Room' as the buns out there too.. hate to think of them out in the garden.. I am a sad sack after all :D ;D 98) But no I don't have them in the kitchen... even the dog crate was moved out of the kitchen cos I didn't like the idea... though saying that I do bath piggies in the kitchen sink as it easier!

My guineas are also cleaned and disinfected (cages that it! ::)) every day! :o

It's no worse than cats who sit and walk over any surface they like and who knows what they have been eating or walking in.

I have mt 2 pigs in an upstairs bedroom. They are kept clean and they don't smell so don't think it makes much difference. Our dog has the run of the house and we have far more problems with him and his hair than with the guins and the rabbits. Your kitchen is as clean as you keep it.

Hi, Thanks for all your answers as i just wondered you see and i dont mind them being bathed in the kitchen sink but i do mine in the bathroom sink ;D

I live in a studio flat which means me and my piggies (3 cages) are all in one room, they are cleaned twice a day, once top layer, evening whole cage, the floor under my bed is covered in carpet squares and small towels, I hoover 3 times a week. The kitchen is seperate though as is the bathroom and I do all my piggy ablutions in the bathroom. I have to say that I'd rather have piggy sitting on a newspaper on a table for 1/2hr than a cat walking over surfaces, ew!

I clean hutches out every three days once the bedding becomes level. I've 2 6ft hutches so don't feel the need to clean out every day. Cuzzy is cleaned out every other day as he is indoors at the mo.

For hygenie reasons I prefer animals in the garden or the shed, the kitchen is a no no. Of course if the weather was bad I'll bring them in. I'm getting some hutch huggers for winter but can house in a shed if needbe.

I bath in the upstairs bath too then scrub it all over, the boys prefer that!
