Hey folks.
I've noticed on Suzy's face, between her eye and nose, a quite deep, but small mark. She's a black pig, so it's hard to tell exactly how deep it is, but I'll be honest it's about the size/shape of her nostril just under her eye. It must be very recent as I didn't notice it this morning, nor when I had her at lunch (but then I wasn't really having a good look!).
I can't see any blood or any signs of any blood having been around the area, and it can't be all that sore because she let me just move her fur to have a look at it without squealing - just a bit of headbutting me away and she's not a head stroking pig anyway so that could have just been that.
It looks nothing like when she had mites (they were small, round scabby patches). It looks like a slice, as if its been cut open (only to about 1mm in width though). I tried getting a photo, but on a black pig you can't see much at all.
I just wondered if this sounded like anything I should be concerned about - as in the beginnings of some sort of infection - or whether it was likely a scuffle between Suzy and her cagemate? Suzy is the dominant pig though, and quite assertive - if anything I usually catch her having a nip to bring Emily in to line - not the other way round.
Could anyone give any advice? Obviously, I was going to keep a close eye on it over the next few days and if it got worse, get in touch with my vet. I just wondered if this was a start of anything nasty and that if it is, hopefully I've caught early.
