I am a new pig owner. I made the mistake of feeding my pig lots of kale every day for around a week until I found out how bad it is for him as an every day meal. Which veggies can I feel safe with feeding him every day that will provide optimum nutrients without any negative effects? Thankyou

You may find the sample meal in our diet guide useful. Please also consider pellets and water hardness for the long term. There are now low or no added calcium pellets brands available.

A week on kale won't do any damage; it is a long term high calcium diet that can be an important contributing factor to bladder stones. Guinea pigs have a naturally highly alkaline urine and are therefore rather prone to urinary tract problems.

So I take it that guinea pig food with pellets and little colorful bits in it is not as good as just plain pellets that are not alfalfa based? From what you said, It is also beneficial to feed a pellet that is as low in calcium as possible, that is interesting but makes sense.

Awww he's adorable.
Burgess pellets, I'm science selective, And pets at home pellets seem to be popular.
But most of the people here do use burgess pellets.
Make sure you give him lots of hay.

I assume what you are talking about is musli. The piggies will pick out the bits they like & leave the rest so they are not getting a balanced diet.

Oh my gosh is it i never thought it was that high in calcium ive been feeding it everyday or every other day since i got my pigs also one of my pigs has recently passed due to a lung tumor so we got a friend for the pig that was left alone but this new pig eats hardly anything
