here is wee peppers story, when i got him he was very small for his age, and still is i cannot get him over 600g, he is 6 months old, i noticed he had a head tilt, took him to the vets and he had ear mites, treated his ears with the xeno, he was fine, this was july, a month ago i noticed he was breathing really rapidly, i took him to the vets and was given septrin for an URI, i told the vet that i wanted his heart checked, they did not listen, again this was july, he was not improving, i kept him on the septrin longer to see if maybe it was a mayjor infection, in august, he was running around, then he just collapsed, i took him back to the vets, he was put on oxygen, and a diaretic for fluid around his heart and lungs, took him back to vets a week later no improvement, he was then put onto, heart meds he is doing so much better he is still low in weight but breathing is better, i have to give him his heart tablet, 1/2 once daily, his diretic every 8 hours so 1.45am, 9.45am, 5.45pm everyday, but he is a super wee man with alot of heart, he is a fighter, my wee pepperx.

the point i am trying to put across is why do vets never listen to clients that is how * save animals, not just guess at the problem, pepper could have died, but i lost another wee piggie Mj to heart problems again told it was a URI he died 3 days later, listen to the clients is what i would tell the vets, stop guessing and do ** jobs. stop other people going through loss to early and care about the pets and owners alike

Sorry to hear of your loss :( Sleep soundly Pepper, you will be missed xx

I'm so sorry. Night night little Pepper.

I know what you mean about getting the right diagnosis. I have 7 heart pigs and though my local vets are great I know from experience with other vets how difficult it is. If you ever need to discuss heart pigs let me know.

Am I right in thinking you have another heart pig? I think you mentioned another on your xeno thread the other day? Is he on medication too?

Oh how sad. I am sorry for your loss :(

I understand what you mean about vets. They should listen to their clients :(

I once had a piggy who developed a 'hoot' but they couldn't find anything. Her breathing for a URI and listening to her heart for abnormalities were the first things they did.

My vets must hate me as I always go in with a list of possible diagnosis but they do listen. I have heard so many horror stories from members in the past that I get a bit obsessed.

i have decided to look for another vet as this is horrible that is the 3rd animal to die in 2 years because the vet did not believe it was a heart problem, wee lockie died on the 8th of december last year aged 16 weeks after having a heart attack, he was blue and fitting, he needed oxygen, instead the vet put him on a heat pad and listened to his heart, who does that if i saw a wee animal blue, i would put them in an o2 tank, he dies because of that, Mj died after i said to the vet he had some sort of heart problem, he had really rapid breathing that * could see, they said no it was a URI and gave him antibiotics he died on the 1st of May his 3rd bday would have been the 6th of May, and now pepper, i will not allow my seth who has a heart murmur to go to them now, luckily he is not on meds, he is doing fine, i do not trust vets to the point, i keep infacol in the house incase of bloat, i clean wounds myself and i look after eyes after hay injuries but i cannot cure heart problems.

I'm very sorry to hear that Pepper has passed away. He seemed such a lovely character for you to lose at such a young age. My thoughts are with you at this very sad time. R.I.P. Pepper. xx

I would do the same as you & find another vet more qualified to treat piggies. I did this earlier in the year & now have a very good vet to treat mine. You could try the Vet Locator at top of this page or perhaps their are other members in your area who can recommend one.
