I took Skye to the vets yesterday as she had become rather lethargic over the past few weeks. I had also noticed that at times her breathing seemed quite erratic but would then stabilise. She was still eating really well and even when she was lay quietly, the minute she saw me coming with food, she would jump straight up.
Simon checked her thoroughly and found her to have an irregular heartbeat and also a heart murmur.
She has been prescribed Fortekor tablets, which are actually for dogs and cats, and she is to take 1/4 of a tablet daily. I gave her the first dose last night and I got up this morning to find her much more active. She has barely lay down at all, she is pottering about the cage constantly and showing much more interest in everything around her.
Have been doing a bit of research into this and have found this website which I thought was quite interesting http://en.knoeddelmeister.com/information/heart-problems-in-guinea-pigs.php
