We have expected this day for at least the last couple of years but Katie was such a fighter and surprised us all. At almost 5 she was a wonderful age for a skinny, especially one with a heart issue. Sadly she had started to slow down over the last few months and even more so this week. We had an appointment booked for last night to either get her heart meads adjusted or to find out if we should make the ultimate decision. Unfortunately I got stuck in traffic for 2 hours and so we had to move the appointment to tonight. Last night she was eating better and was up and about so it was an awful shock to get up this morning and find that she had passed in the night. We are devastated.

Katie arrived on 26 February 2012 and was about 8 months old. She was the original diva and there will never be another pig like her. She DID NOT share cozies and in fact all the cozies in the world belong to her and always will do :) if another pig was in one she would reverse in on top of them until they moved and then she would boot them out of the next one they sat in too. Poor Phoebe used to go through this on a daily basis. Even up until recently she would reverse in and it made us laugh every time. The only time she shared was when Fuzzy was poorly and she let her use her spare, once better though she did not let her any more. Just hilarious.

We have so many wonderful memories and I have had them saved for over a year on a post -it at work as we knew this could happen at any time. My favourite was when she was chasing a poo round the floor, each time she breathed out through her nose it moved and she was following it about. I also loved the time she ate her vitamin while sat on the soles of my feet, it tickled so badly but I couldn't move. She used to climb up my legs for food and I have her paws tattooed on my right leg and Ross has her paw on his foot. When she wanted her hay she would bounce up and down in her cozy until it was topped up. She always had her own hay pile.

The other members of the herd adored her and would wash her eyes and look after her. She would shout when they did it but shout even louder when they stopped and stuck her face out further so they could carry on. She wasn't part of the herd hierarchy, there was the other pigs including top sow Moo, and then there was Katie, she would not follow herd rules and was a rebel.

I also remember the last time we tried to do a pee test, she sat on my hand in the bucket so her bum and paws wouldn't get cold :)

There are so many memories that I am hoping will provide some comfort in time. For now I am just numb,

Night night Katie pig, you really were one in a million. Go steal all the cozies at the bridge my angel.

Secondly she is a beautiful piggy and you should feel very happy that you gave her such a wonderful life. She will always be with you in one way or another xx

So sorry to hear this, some pigs manage to get right to the centre of our hearts & when they leave us - it leaves us empty, she sounds like she certainly had character!
Dont forget she only lived such a long & happy life because of your caring dedication to her :luv:

Big hug for you both & my thoughts are with you.

My heart sank when I saw the name here, I was so hoping it wasn't Katie. I am reall sorry for you both Helen, she was one of those pigs in a million, her stories always made me laugh. Big hugs to you & your furry family

Really so, so sorry to hear about Katie and your post shows how important she was in your lives. I am sure she had an extended and special life with you.Hugs.
Sleep well Katie in the fluffiest cozy you can find.

Thank you everyone, am still a bit in shock tbh. Her herd are quite subdued too and there have been a few minor dominance nose offs and we are wondering if Katie could have been top sow after all. We adopted an adorable and very tiny little skinny today, it had always been planned for this weekend but it was just very sad timing. She is putting a smile on our faces though and we may try her with Katie's herd as they seem to be a bit lost as a 4.

A beautiful tribute to a beautiful piggy. So sorry for your loss, Katie was such a character.
Hope the little one settles in quickly. Look forward to hearing more when you feel up to it.

Oh Helen I'm so sorry. RIP Katie. x She sounds like such an amazing character and you really do feel that loss when those piggies pass.
I hope you are doing as well as can be xx

Thank you everyone, feels really strange without her but I think we are all slowly adjusting. Having little Mary has helped give us something to focus on.

I'm so sorry Helen on your loss of Katie, you feel the hurt so much. I'm sure she's playing over the rainbow bridge, waiting for you. Think of her fondly, & remember her when she was well x
