Hi all

With the cold weather fast approaching we've just bought an oil-filled radiator to use in the shed outside where our fosters are currently housed to try and keep the temperature up, specifically at night.

However, I've just read the instruction manual and it says:

1) Do not use outdoors
2) Ensure the heater is not positioned close to curtains, furniture or any combustible materials as this could create a fire hazard.

We were going to buy a panel heater but couldn't find one with an adjustable thermostat so thought this would be a better option. Does anyone else use an oil filled heater in a shed, and/or has anyone ever had any problems with them?

Thanks

Marty

I have a convector heater on a thermostat in my shed brought from argos for about £20. They still sell them I have had mine a couple of years now. Another option is a tubeular heater also sold in argos or cheaper at screwfix.

Those oil filled ones and th convector ones will considerably up for bills! Not exactly what you want in this current climate.

All you want to do is get rid of the chill, so it's room temperature, around 16 degrees in there. Tubular heaters are the best ones for this.

Thanks everyone, we were considering insulating the shed as well, so will be seriously investigating this tomorrow. In the meantime we have a couple of foil survival blankets that we were going to pin up in the shed in a vain attempt to keep in any warmth! Our main concern is ventilation, however, but I don't think that a couple of foil blankets should affect that much as we will make sure that the gaps between the walls and the roof are still partially uncovered.

I had thought of the tubular heaters, but wasn't sure how economical they were or how effective?

hi my shed is heated with tubular heaters and they are fantastic it is always lovely and warm.Icurrently have 2 in a 6ft x 4ft shed and it is sometimes a little to warm,i have to keep a close eye on it so we are going to get a thermostat. They apparently cost the same to run as a 60 watt light bulb.i couldn't reccommed them enough and it gives me complete piece of mind knowing they arn't out there cold and uncomfortable. i got mine from screwfix.
