Hi

I'm getting some piggies soon (haven't had any for a few years after my last ones passed away :-( ), & am researching the housing options.

Those of you who keep them in a shed, how do you heat the shed in winter? I have no access to electricity outdoors. Also, any recommendations of an outdoor alternative to a shed? You seem to be able to get all sorts of outdoor buildings / stores nowadays, so just wondered if anyone knew of anything better than a shed (other than in the house of course :-) ).

Thanks

Helen

Hi xx
My guinea pigs live in a shed at the bottom of the garden, they are in hutches at night time but through the day they're in c&c runs.
I keep the hutches warm with newspaper, woodshavings and loads and loads of hay, their runs have waterproof tablecloth material as the floor lining and puppy pads on the top and then fleeces on the top of that.
They have hidy houses and fleecy houses filled with hay and the floor is covered in hay.
I also made lined curtains for the shed windows and their hutches are insulated and covered with fleeces and hutch huggers.

can you get any extension lead thread it through a hose pipe and plug 1 end in the house the the other end goes into your shed you can then plug in an oil heater x

I have electricity in my shed as it's a lean-to attached to the garage and it's got a 2ft tubular heater as my boys are free range. I'd prefer them to be in a hutch so the heat is contained, but I have yet to find a hutch small enough for the shed (it's not even a 6'x4') but large enough for two boys.

I think your only options are Snugglesafes, insulation (roof, floor and walls - pricey but worth it!) lots of hay, cardboard boxes and a companion or two!
