I just wanted to ask a few questions about heatstroke........................I want to learn more

Can indoor piggies get heatstroke?

Is heatstroke due to high temperature or sitting in direct sun?

Why do piggies get heatstroke if they come from hot country?

Is it true piggies dont have sweat glands/pores?

Thank you :))but it dont answer questions:(

WHy do guinea pigs get heatstroke?

Do they have pores/sweat glands in skin?

I find putting a flat stone in the cage is great - my little Abby was lying on it earlier.

Stones are great cos they stay cool all the time

They adapt to suit the environment they are in.

For example, people who live at high altitude, will have a greater number of red blood cells to carry more oxygen around the body, than those at sea level where there's a greater oxygen content in the air.

Piggies are the same - wild pigs in native countries are capable of dealing with higher temperatures because its the norm for them - they would probably curl up and die during one of our cold winters, because they've not been exposed to extreme low temperatures, where as our piggies would survive no problem.

Heatstroke is caused by the body having done all it can to naturally lower its temperature, but it continues to be too high - so yes, indoor piggies can get heatstroke.

Hope that helps a little
