Where I live we have another heatwave coming, 29 degrees by Sunday. Time to follow the weather care guide, get water bottles frozen again. I worry so much about the piggies during heatwaves 😭
And I always think in every large town or city, there will be animals slowly dying of heatstroke on heatwave days, some very nearby, through lack of care. I feel upset and worried all day on heatwaves 😞

Good you are flagging this up @Black piggies I am also very concerned for the animals in the coming heatwave, my floofs are getting extreme summer haircuts tonight and I already have frozen bottles in the freezer! I'm staying home all this weekend when the forecast is 27 degrees here to make sure all the piggies stay safe and cool. Damp cotton sheets shading the cages with the fan blowing, window blinds down...
Please stay safe all forum piggies and warm your friends and neighbours who have pets! Only takes half hour to get fatal heatstroke in this kind of weather, if you are going out make sure the pets have plenty cool damp shade and a fan and a cool pack to sit on!

Can you put snuggle safes in the fridge?
Hopefully someone who knows can answer that. Just wondering, as they're not designed for the fridge, are they loosely filled enough, given water expands when frozen?
Edit I'm mixing up chilled and frozen, ignore that, heatwave worry is affecting my brain cells!

The best thing I invested in was the air conditioner unit from Screwfix for the piggies. And cool mats for the dog. They really help a lot 🥵
Good to get a recommendation from someone using the unit for piggies.
I've looked online and screwfix do a couple of types, they're sold out by me, so I've ordered a table size unit to see how it works. Which screwfix unit do you use?

We use the DKT-L7 5 litre, mobile air cooler. The water in it usually last around 8 hours, even longer if you add some ice packs in. It's only around £70, but it's brilliant. We tried the more expensive Dyson ones before this one, and they were useless.

My ice packs are going in the freezer tonight! Hopefully the boys will stop trying to eat the towels 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
Shamless plug but I do make little covers for them if you ever needed any..

Great to know thanks. Glad your piggies and pup will be all OK!

Have just trimmed the new piggy's hair, my first time, so they should be cooler.

I set up a couple of "sheep shearing" pens. Went OK apart from the crucial back end and legs which seems harder to do, will have to be another day, as the pigs weren't having it🤦🏼‍♀️

We brought the ice pods and their covers away with us for just this reason.
Now to try and squeeze them into the dinky freezer compartment of the fridge.

Ever since you recommended this I’ve been looking constantly but it’s never in stock :td:

Material supplies in general are a nightmare because of Covid and shipping. We get so many customers wanting decking (wood and composite) but you just can’t get it. There’s a huge cement shortage too

Hope everything goes well for you and your piggies in this heatwave ❤.

In Australia, these are actually low summer temperatures, with the average being 31 degrees, so I can't help but be a bit jealous 😂, even though I'm used to these temperatures. Our heatwaves are usually 34-40 degrees 🥵

🥵 How awful! Your post made me chuckle, I had a kiwi boyfriend years ago who teased me mercilessly for calling 24 degrees a heatwave 😂

Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a heatwave warning banner at the top of the forum home page in case anyone hasn't seen the forecast? @sport_billy ?

I think I'll probably find it a bit hard to get on with the gardening when it gets to the predicted 26 here. But boy am I glad I'm not in California/Midwest USA - 124 degrees anyone?! (50+ in celsius). Just wait till global warming really gets going ...

It's winter over here now, and it's going to be 25 degrees, so I guess that's a heatwave for winter (usual 19-21 degrees) 😂
