Hi!

Please contact a vet ASAP if possible. The UK has round the clock veterinary emergency cover, which you can find by googling or via the message on your regular vet's phone.

Otherwise try to see a vet as soon as possible and contact the clinic first thing tomorrow morning if you are in Canada for hopefully a same day appointment.

Here is the link to our comprehensive emergency, crisis and bridging care information collection where you have got all the important bits accessible from this link here: Emergency Resources and Critical Illness Care - Contents list and subforum link

Is the BC in your location British Colombia?
If so I think Guinealynx May give vet information for Canada as well as for the USA if you don’t have a vet you already know.
Holding you in my thoughts.
Let us know how you get on

Thank you I will look into it 😀

Please take the time to read our emergency guide so you can care for your piggy as best as you can (with lots of practical tips) and know what you can do at any time; including when time is running out before you can see a vet.

Fingers very firmly crossed for you and yours!

Good luck. Learning how to syringe feed is probably easier with a healthy guinea pig and a worthwhile component of your GP care kit. We had to learn in a hurry back in the autumn. Some nuggets mashed in warm water will do as a stopgap.

Hi!

Please have her seen sooner if possible. This sounds rather like pneumonia!

Please follow the tips in the bridging guide re. daily weighing and support feeding. The need to breathe comes before the need to drink and only thirdly the need to eat. Your piggy is still struggling to breathe.

Fingers very firmly crossed!

Update:she’s gone my baby girl has crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈♥♥🥺

HUGS

I am so very sorry.

If diaphragmic breathing is the first symptom you notice, you are generally very much up against either one of the nastier respiratory bugs or against acute heart failure, and even with medication the outcome would have been dicey. :(

I have been sitting here keeping my fingers very firmly crossed in the hope that Miga could hang in there long enough for you to see a vet and for any medication to kick in. So very sorry that the timing was the worst possible.

Please feel sad and upset, but try not to feel guilty or like you have failed Miga. You have done your very best under the circumstances, and that is all you can do!
