Hi I have recently got 2 rescue piggies (Thomas and Percy) and with all the recycling I was wondering if we could put the waste in the garden (brown bin) but I phoned up my local council and they said no it has to go in the domestic waste or the skip, I thought what a waste of good compost material. Good job I didn't just chuck it in :))

Hi :)

Do you have a garden? You could put it in the flower beds, in a compost bin, or if you have somewhere you could just put it in a pile behind some bushes or somewhere and it'll decompose. That's what I do.

I'm allowed to put my piggy waste into the brown bin in Hull - it's from the hay tray so it's newspaper (wet) with hay and poos on it. I phoned them twice to be certain and I tend to cover it up with a layer of cuttings just to be certain though! So far they've taken it all away.

Hi Fifib, nice to meet you! :)p
I use newspaper, megazorb and hay and it all goes in my brown bin, never been a problem. If I were you I would just do as Sarah suggested and put it in the brown bin with a layer of cuttings on top.
Oh and we need pics of Thomas and Percy.;) Do you have a young son by any chance?

I spoke to our refuse/recycling people last year. we live in cumbria. we were told could not go in garden waste as it contained animal waste, and therefore affects whether they can sell the compost on. (we still remember foot and mouth)
but apparently some councils will accept rabbit poo, but not GP as it is from 'an exotic animal'!

when we were using hay and newspaper it did occasionally go in the garden waste by mistake, and the binmen always took it no ****.

probably best bet is to make your own compost heap - makes fab compost for growing veg. apparently, it is also prized by certain drug dealers who 'grow their own':x

Hi all, I only have a small garden so no room for compost, I could hide it at the bottom of the brown bin or give to my dad to put on his compost heap :)) lol. I was wondering if I should change bedding to a vetbed as it looks like alot of peeps don't like using wood shavings, What does everyone think?

I have two girls aged 5 and 2 who recently got two little trains Thomas & Percy, I was going through names like nuzzle and scratch, big and small but no they didn't like that and shouted yay! when I suggested they name them after their trains.

Post piccy soon

Wow! That's unusual for girls to be into Thomas. My son was daft on all things Thomas for years. We still have all his little wooden trains up in the attic.

Hi! Welcome to the forum!

Are your piggies living in a hutch or indoors? I couldn't have as many piggies without being able to wash their bedding, frankly.
