Hi all

I have lurked here a while but only just dived in with posting yesterday so hello everyone!

Just wondering how many guineapigs most people keep, and does anyone know who has the most pigs? Like, does anyone have more than twenty?! Also what is the biggest group that anyone keeps together?

I only have 4 now (was 5, sob) and I love seeing them together, and they are pretty noisy once they start too! They have even interrupted an international telephone conference my husband was on once, when the people in America asked what the noise was, oops!

Cheers
Alex

I only have two soon to be three but very interesting questions and i will be following this thread to see who has the most!

Hello and welcome :) I only have 2 sows called Eleanor and Eliza. I would love some more but my 2 are spoilt rotten plus space is an issue.

There are lots of people on here who run rescues so have lots of piggies :) And then there are people who have lots of piggies as pets :)

I have 8 - 4 boars and 4 sows. I once saw something on the internet that said guinea-pigs are like chocolates you can never have just one :))

i have two.....but i think if space wasn't an issue i would have lots more by now! :)p

Welcome to the forum:)p I have 5 boys, but would love more, and have to be careful looking at all the beautiful rescue boys on this forum because I mentally start rearranging my house to fit more in. One day.....:))

I have three but am looking to get one or two more in the future when I've made a bigger cage. More is definitely merrier when it comes to guinea pigs. That's the good/bad thing with a neutered boy and girls, you can just add on...

I have 3 sows. Would love more, but like others, space is an issue. Although I'm sure i'll find a way around that soon! :<>

I have a group of seven - one neutered boar and six girls.

It used to be only two piggies for five years before I joined the forum...;)

Wow we have a whole range of numbers!

Do any of you with larger numbers of pigs house them together in a big group? I would love to see a picture with say a dozen all living together, I think Peter Gurney's book has some pics like that, so cute!

I have 13 boys soon to be a few more :(|),my biggest groups being male is my trio,
i know someone from an oz forum who has 10 boys bonded together and she just added an eleventh piggy,i saw this myself and it was just surreal;)

That sounds awesome!

The lady where I got Smoky and Smudge had an aviary with a shed attached and she had lots living together (maybe 10 or 20 anyway) which was quite a sight!

I have 2 boys. Housed together.

Sometime within the next 12 months, I'm hoping for it to be 3 boys.
Just need to soften up the family @)

I'm so jealous of you guys with lots of piggies! I'd love to have about 6. 3 boys and 3 girls.
They all have such different personalities, it's so much fun to just sit back and watch them do their thing :)

Hi Alex, nice to meet you!

I have 12 piggies; when I joined a year ago I had eight, and despite losing three I still find myself at twelve now. What can I say, they were just calling my name...

Hello! :)p

I have 6.

Sasha and Mabelle were my girlies, but due to mis-sexing, it turned out that Mabelle is a boy. Sasha gave birth to 4 babies this week (on Tuesday!). They are cute as can be! ^) So my intention is to keep all 6.

How fabulous having 12! Are they one huge group?

Ooh how cute, do you have any pictures? What sex are the babies, will you keep a group of boars and a group of sows?

There are pics on this thread http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=40324

After a very quick look on Tuesday, my bf thinks that we have 3 boars and 1 sow - If this is the case, we will put the sow with mum and dad as Mabelle was neutered after we found out he wasn't a she, and then keep a trio of boys and hope they get along through the hormonal stages!

oh my god they are so CUTE!

You are so lucky, those piglets are adorable! Lucky you being able to keep them, and two groups of six sounds perfect!

I have 18. A trio of boys, a pair of boys and then in a shed I have a free roaming group of 12 girls and I have a neutered boy who can join them in 3 weeks.

How lovely, love the thought of a shed full of guineas!

Sadly not. Two are intact boars, so strictly forbidden from any contact with any of the eight ladies! I have one pair of girls who I would love to integrate into another group, but one is a very feisty old girl - think "old ladies" and "handbags" and you get a general idea. :))

I have one neutered boar with one girl (Meghan); I tried putting more girls with them but Meghan refuses to share her man, to the point she will inflict serious injury on any intruders!

The rest are all living together, a group of six - one neutered boy and five girls. There are a few strong characters in there too, it was a lot of dominance behaviour before everybody settled and I'm loathe to try adding anyone else as they are finally happy with each others company.

The girls are a lot more trouble than the boys, that's for sure.

They sound very characterful! What do you mean the girls are more trouble, are they less laid back? More moody?

I am off to find a picture thread with people's cages and GPs in now :)

I am down to 4 at the moment - a group of 3 sows and one boar on his own (he lost his hutchmate just yesterday 8...). However, I'm keen to get my boar a new friend as he is clearly lonely, and he's such a sociable friendly chap, so hopefully back to 5 soon.

Like everyone I'd love to have a huge group but space, time and money are all limiting factors. One day, when I have won the lottery...

Piggypotter sorry about losing your gp yesterday :( hope you find him a friend soon :) Know what you mean about wining lottery!

spice... good luck with your new pig tomorrow :)

poshpiggies that means you have 14, lucky you! Bet the groups of 6 are very cute :)
