Hello, I am Kaii and I have 16 guinea pigs. As you can imagine I have a lot of cages for them.

My trio of males currently live in three midwest guinea habitat deluxe connected in an L-shape. I will attach a picture when I can^^

My bonded pair of males live in 2 and 1/4 of a midwest cage, I have sectioned off the hay area with two grids otherwise they would have 2/4 of one more midwest.

My female herd of 6 lives in 3 midwest cages also in an L-shape, they are separated from the boys of course. I want to add another midwest and a c&c loft for their hay.

I have one single male who lives in an all living things, guinea pig penthouse habitat. This is similar to the midwest cages I think its just a bit wider but shorter :)

I just want to know your opinions and knowledge about my cages!

I think this is enough room for them, but I just want to make sure! Should I upgrade my cages?

Isn't a Midwest 8sqft?

The cage with the boar trio (which is very risky I will say), 24sqft or 2.2m². Now I'm not 100% sure, but I think each boar needs 1m² each. @Piggies&buns will know more.

Boar pair have 16sqft which is a lovely amount of space. Very lucky piggies.

The herd of 6 have 24sqft. I think 21sqft is the minimum for 6.

I'm not familiar with the all living things.

Is there a reason why your one male is by himself? Do you intend to get him a friend?

A boar trio is a huge risk as most fail so do ensure you have a back up plan
How old are they?
How long have they been together?
A boar trio need a lot of space - one square metre of space each. When converted to square feet, this means that three Midwest cages comes to 24 square feet. The recommended size for a boar trio would be a minimum of 32 square feet. So going on that calculation, their cage could do with being bigger.
However, if they are an elderly boar trio who are No longer hormonal and have been together for years, then they may well be fine with the cage they have.

The pair of boars with two Midwest cages sounds fine. A boar pair needs 12 square feet so two Midwest’s is 16 sq ft

The herd of 6 sows cage sounds fine

The single piggy. Ive looked up the Living Things penthouse cage and it says it’s measurements are 47 inches by 24 inches. The minimum for a single piggy is 48 inches by 24 inches (4ft x 2ft). So while just abouf meets minimum requirements and is therefore ok, where possible, giving beyond the minimum size requirements is recommended.

Is he all better now? If so definitely get him a friend. If you have a rescue centre near you then see if you can get in contact with them so they can help find a character compatible friend for him. Bonding boars at his age can be tricky due to the hormones so ensuring they two piggies have compatibility is very important

That’s good if they’ve been together a long time a d get on well. I’m glad you have a functioning trio - consider yourself very lucky as the vast majority fail!

I assume Huckle is neutered in that case?

Huckle is a boy and no, he is still a bit too young for that. I have no plans to let him near the ladies anytime soon unless he gets neutered :)

Oh ok, I’m just trying to picture the situation! You say he is single and living in a living things penthouse cage, but then said he is bonded and living with ‘one of the girls babies’. So is ‘one of the girls babies’ a boar? If he has now been bonded and is living with another young boar, then the living things penthouse cage is too small for two boars. Two boars need to be in a 180x60cm cage but going by the measurement, the living things penthouse is only 120x60cm

At 5 months old he is not necessarily too young to be neutered. They can be neutered once their testicles have descended which usually occurs around four months of age.
