Hello everyone
My guinea pig Lion got ill about 3 weeks ago with his eye, sadly he had a big tumour and had to be put sleep today. It broke my heart. I have another one Michael at home missing him. Does anyone gone through it too? I am now worried about Michael at home. Would he not die out of missing him. Shall I get another one to keep him company?
Monika

I'd suggest taking your boar boar dating at a rescue if you are living within the UK.

I'm sure he is missing his friend and will appreciate a new one. :)

Hi Monika and Michael, and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear about Lion, it must have been a very difficult choice for you to make but know that he is running free across the Rainbow Bridge x
Michael will be grieving for the loss of his friend, most definitely. It is recommended to get him a friend, but boars are notoriously more difficult to pair than ladies are. My boy Junior has been alone for 2 1/2 weeks since his hutchmate Casper died, but I would rather have him be single until we find the perfect friend for him. Make sure you shower him with attention, change his hutch/cage around a bit, clean it out so he has a fresh start. Maybe get him a new treat, toy or hidey hole? Something that he can claim as his.
I agree that you should take your piggie to a rescue that does boar dating - they will not let you take another piggie home that isn't the perfect partner! Whereabouts are you situated? We can help you find a rescue. xx

Sorry to hear about Lion.

I used a boar dating service to find a perfect mate for my boar. It took several boars until we found the perfect friend. Are you in the uk?

Hi Monika

Welcome to the forum! I am very sorry about your loss; you must be so upset!

Boars can be rebonded, but our advice differs depending on which country your are in.

Here in Britain, there is the possiblility to "boar date" bereaved boars with suitable candidates at a good rescue and rebond them under expert supervision. This is the best way of creating a new stable bond, as it takes into account character compatibility and mutual liking, which are the key stones for a happy boar bond. It maximises the chances of long term success and minimises your risk.

If you are in another country, unless you have access to a rescue or shelter with experienced staff/volunteers, looking for a baby boar under 3 months old is proabably your best option. Again ideally where your boy can make his choice. This method carries the risk of later problems when the youngster hits the big hormones. Depending on where you get the youngster from, you will need to check his sex (you can do that on here) and quarantine him before he can be introduced to your boy.

We would be glad if you would tell us where you are from and we may be able to help you further.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
So sorry that your first posting is so sad.
RIP Lion xx

When you feel up to it I'd take Michael boar dating to find him a new friend.
If you let us know where you are we can suggest a good rescue centre.

Sending you hugs....we understand how hard it is to loose a piggy. :(

thank you all for your support. I was with him more but he was very dependent on Lion. Yesterday evening he was running around his cage feeling lost. Even didn't eat his veg they used to fight for. It is terrible to see him like that but I think I keep giving him the attention rather than taking another one. He is 6 years old so not to put him under more pressure. Thank you again

I am so sorry you have lost your beloved piggie. I hope his friend feels a bit happier with you giving him lots of extra love xx
