He keeps shivering when I hold him and shaking. His little ears were cold but the cage is in a warm spot in the house. Could he be sick? are there other reasons guinea pigs shiver like this?

As Mark said he could be scared, though it could be something else.

what are his poos like , are the normal or have you knoticed any diferance ?
when sitting in the cage . is he hunched up ?
are his eyes clear
has he been eating ok
has he lost any weaght

It could be a nervous thing, some of mine do this when on my lap as they are not cuddly pigs. How long have you had him? Is he eating and drinking ok? and pooing?

Whats his breathing like?
is there anythink at all that is differant about his behavure

If your boy shivers only when you hold him; then it is from apprehension.

could be nervous as others have said, but a shiver/vibration can also be due to discomfort/pain sometimes aswell, especially if it happens more when touched. of course, being touched can also cause very nervous piggies to do it even more aswell so hard to tell sometimes.

is he new? any other behaviour/health different to normal?
