Watership Down

I also posted this in the chit chat section but i think it more fits here -

Hi everyone.
I live in Scotland and a few days ago we adopted two lovely girls.
please can you advise -
1.Is there a thread where i can see you cage set-ups?
2.They dont seem to have drank much water since i have got them but they much through their carrots and dry food.
3. when i got them their cage was filled mostlt with hay which they stayed hidden in. i moved the hay into a hay rack and given them a tube to hide in as I wanted to get them used to their surrounding as all they do was sit in the hay and never come out/Now Asha is just chattering her teeth like shes annoyed. should i change it back?

lots more to ask but dont want to ask to much in one go.

Look forward to chatting and getting to know you all

Hi, and welcome to the Forum. Regarding water, mine didn't use their bottles at all, so I made sure they always had a lot of cucumber which they loved - and it meant they got moisture from that. Also, when you put your veg in the cage (cabbage, carrot, corn, whatever) wash it first, so there is water on that.
I'm sure you'll find the Forum very helpful for anything you want to know.

Hello. Welcome to the forum.

I've actually just replied to you one in the chit chat section.
With regards to toys etc i bought them a big cardboard tube and a few chewing toys and a ball. I am still looking at things to get them.
at the moment since I moved the hay they are squeking and chattering their teeth do you think I should buy something fleecy then so they should sleep in?

I wouldn't spend too much money on toys for them - just try and find different ways to give them food. For example I take old toilet rolls, put holes in it and fill it with hay - just makes them work a little bit harder to get food. You also metal ball things that hang from the cage which you can fill with hay/veg etc. Or buy something like a parsley bell. A really good website is Pampered Piggies - they have loads of brilliant things.

Yes, I would put hay/fleece in their sleeping quarter - just so that they have something to snuggle in.

Welcome to the forum!

Don't worry to much about them not doing too much, it's quite normal as it's still very early days :) They can take a while to trust, so don't think it's anything to do with you! Yep, Pampered Piggies do some great snacks or treats, I would heartily avoid the brightly coloured sugary ones from the pet shops though, they're usually full of additives and sugar. I agree with Angela about not spending too much on toys etc - mine are happiest with a parsley bell and a clean empty paper bag!

Ours don't often drink much either when they first come - one of mine still hardly drinks anything, but often they come around. As Sue said, they can get water from their fresh veggies and when you wash their greens etc, try and leave water on them, that'll get extra in them too. there is a safe food list in the food section of the forum.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

All i can suggest it whats already been said lol regarding water and such, they may just be unsure as its still early days, just like others have said give them cucumber and wash the veggies.
My Chestnut like the ends of the toilet roll's with hay in, he dont really have toys he just like's to run around.
Once they get used to you they will chat all day long :)

Look forward to chatting with you more and seeing pic's of your piggies.
Take care.
Louise
