I just got Ellah out to give her a bath and when I picked her up I noticed this HUGE tumor on her lower abdomen almost like parallel to her hip bone. It is about 1 in out from her abdomen and 2 inches wide... its purplish/red/pink in appearance and its not soft nor hard - kind of in the middle, like a balloon filled with puddy or something. There is a spot where her hair is missing like its been rubbing on the floor of her cage or something. She couldn't have had this thing for too long seeing as I take them out regularly to do checks and clip their nails, and to give them floor time. I haven't noticed til' now. She is eating fine. She has no pain when I touch it or slightly press on it. No wheeking or signs of discomfort. There seems to be no opening or breaking of the skin (bug bite, scratch). I made a stat vet appointment for tomorrow but I may take her to urgent care tonight. I have to find out if they treat piggies first. If ANYONE has any insight or info or advice or anything - I'm flipping out! =( Thanks-Shannon

Sorry to hear about your piggy. I'm sorry I can't help as I haven't come across this before. As it is large and has happened so suddenly I would take her to the duty vet tonight if you can. If not make sure they see you as early as possible tomorrow.
Just try and keep her calm for tonight and don't allow her to run around.
Hope she gets better soon. Keep us posted.
Best wishes
Claire

Thank you those were very helpful.. from the sounds of it so far - it sounds like an ovarian cyst, with the placement and size. Thats the closest thing I've read about so far.

Well, the vet scared me at first with "I think it's breast cancer".. but them she said - No it's just a HUGE hematome (Blood blister). So, she drained the fluid out on Thursday and told me to put a warm compress on it. So I did. She also said that if it filled back up to call them stat the next morning. Well, it didn't fill back up so that's a good thing. The swelling has gone down some, however there is still a pocket of fluid there. Ellah seems to be eating and drinking just fine. She is interacting with Bailee the way she always has. She steals her carrots and grooms her. The vet also checked for a hernia. She said she counld'nt feel anything wrong on the inside other than the hematoma. She didn't know what caused it. Perhaps just running and jumping and playing with Bailee she said. Anyways I'm very happy that it's not a tumor. Thanks for your input guys!

Ovarian cysts are internal,not external.

well.. my Mom is a nurse and she drained ellah's "bubble" again on Sunday, seeing as it seemed smaller, however there was still liquid in there. Since she has drained it again, it has filled back up. Not to the huge size that it was when I took her to the vet (about the size of 2 golfballs) now it is about 1 golfball's size. My vet is on vacation until next week, so I'm not sure what to do seeing as there are not many exotic vets in this area. I will call around tomorrow and see if anyone can see her. There is a zoo here, and the vet for that zoo see's exotics. Maybe I'll call him. Anyway - I'm very worried about her. Her condition: She's eating and drinking regularly as well as pooing and peeing fine. She does not seem lethargic. She is playing with bailee and associating with her as she always has. She is eating her veggies as well as her food and hay. She will even steal bailee's cucumbers quite often. It's funny! Anyway- the vet said she did not think it was from a hernia. She thought maybe it was just from her running and playing with bailee and she bumped it, but I'm not sure that right seeing as it on the underside of her belly. I'm not going to continue draining it without the vet to say so, because I'm not sure if shes internally bleeding or what? So many people have been giving insight into what it might be, that I'm very confused! If anyone has info, I would love to here it =)

Love, Shannon the verrrrrry worried momma.

Ok .. i have no idea what to think! I just tried to drain ellah once again.. because its been a week since we drained her and i thought maybe the would had to heal from the inside out and so after we drained it, it wouldnt fill back up again..

well this time it barely even drained. Its still about the size of a golf ball and a half but only about 6cc's drained out.. and it looked like a mixture of blood and something else. I just don't understand! she is eating and drinking and pooing and peeing normally shes playing with bailee just fine and shes eating her veggies also. She seems like a normal piggie with the exception of the huge lump on her abdomen and shes losing some weight - not a considerable amount but it just looks like the lump is weighing her skin down. He belly is plump however her hip bones are more prominent than before. I dont know how she could be losing weight because she is eating just fine. I dont know what this could be! When we put the needle in (25 1 1/2 gauge needle) about 2 minutes into it she peed and poo'd so I'm thinking maybe its something to do with the bladder? but her pee was not bloody and she did not squeal when peeing. If anyone has any input I WOULD LOVE IT! the vets appt is not until thursday - there are only 3 exoctic vets in my area and 2 of them are on vacation! that upsets me. So all exotics are being brought to this one vet so hes booked solid. please help!

I'm sorry this is happening. I don't know much about the treatment of cysts, etc. Hope someone here can help you.

Me too i am afraid. I am sorry that i cant be of any help.

Hoping all gets better for Ellah soon.

xx

thank you I am very worried. The vets office I am going to is new for me and Ellah but they are very nice people and are also worried about her condition - they said if she gets worse to call immediatly and they'd see what they can do, however I have a very tight work/school schedule so my mom is taking her in later in the week. She seems perky so far. :{
