Help Abscess Under Speedys Chin Has Burst!

Speedys been at the vets Monday, baytril for a bite abscess under his chin... I've cleaned him up with hibiscrub & antibiotics this morning, I've just come back from shopping fed all the animals & speedys abscess has burst I've popped him in a bath with hibiscrub he has two slices which I've drained with saline, he's on his own now (hospital cage) what do I do now? Not point going to the vets it's now home treatment as the vets wanted the 10days bayril in his system before looking into lancing & draining! Now it's done it naturally what do I do? Going to disinfect the cage & bath the other two just so the infected puss doesn't get them too I'm at panic station

You need to flush out the abscess cavity with a mild hibiscrub or saline solution. Use a syringe to get all the pus out. Repeat this twice daily to allow the abscess to heal from the inside out and keep the hole open for as long as possible to make sure that no fleck of infection gets trapped inside. The longer you can, the greater the chances of healing. you are aiming at ideally up to 10 days, but a minimum of 5 and more.
If necessary, see a vet to ask them to thoroughly flush out the abscess cavity for the first time.

Don't panic over the infection risk to other piggies; it is minimal unless there is an open wound. Just clean any mess up. The smell is the worst.

You may need a stronger antibiotic as baytril has clearly not cut through the abscess.

Thanks I have these, sterile Manuka honey I flushed it out with one already. There's blood but no smell? I've got speedy in a different room ATM away from the other 2

I would use a mild disinfectant at first. Yes, an abscess can at first contain more blood than pus. It still needs to be flushed regularly.

I've just been on the phone to the vets I've done all that I can, they've said they want him to stay on that antibiotic unless he changes, eating/drinking fine has a pro c in his water. I've been told not to flush directly inside? I've bricked it, that was utterly horrible Poor piggy

Thing to remember when flushing is to be gentle! If you bruze the scin around the abscess, it could become infected

I have this too... better than saline? I'm so queezy I could throw my guts up. Have been offered for pet@home to take the 3 boars on & treat speedy further & rehome home him once he's better & rehome the healthy two. It's against my beliefs as a person but for their welfare & happiness I've concidered it as it's only me who looks after them
(Partner bought them for the children without My consent & broken promises off him) please no bashing.

I've gave speedys antibiotic, clean up (saline) & sprayed sterilising spray on it, its scabbed over (have tried to keep it open) looks sore but much better, he's eating & drinking fine, I have to wrap him in a towel so he doesn't struggle stressing himself out. Other two are really quiet, speedy is in a different room.... should I keep them separate permanently or try to rebond once speedy is better? Chances of a secondary infection? Anything else I can give him to keep his stomach okay?
