Well i picked up the preloved 12, the 4 boars were in a 4 foot hutch(they are now seperated into pairs) the 8 girls(left 4 there as she was keeping them)were in a 4 foot hutch that had 2 levels, the babies(5 of them) are only 4 weeks old. A lot of the females are virtually hairless(not supposed to be) she said they were born like that i wander whether one or two of them are stipping each other.

Anway they all have mites babies included, so how do i treat 4 week old babies, also some of the adults could be pregnant,(think one def is) so how would i treat the,? Someone told me ages ago to rub in some Ivomec on the babies bald spot on theier ears, what do you all think.

Also how can i get their fur to grow back.

Poor little Piggies.
For the 4 week old babies, can you get hold of Xeno 50 mini? I used this on a 3 week old baby and it did the trick.
It is for small animals (20g upwards).

Cannot believe 4 boars in 1x 4ft hutch?!

Ok - I'll try to help from here!

1. If the babies are 4 weeks old you need to split the boys from the girls - I'm sure you have, but needed to mention it.
2. They do a Xeno50 Mini for babies but I believe it's from 6 weeks - you need to get this from your vet. Given their age I wouldn't trust any other treatment, as they're only tiny.
3. I'm not sure about treating pregnant sows with Ivomec - I know people have done, but I always avoid it if I suspect they may be pregnant. Similarly you don't want to stress them by bathing them.
4. Just because they have hairloss doesn't mean mites - it could be fungal or allergies. Stripping / barbering usually results in cropped hair, not baldness.

If I were you I'd get the whole lot to the vets to make sure they're being treated for the right thing. You wouldn't want anything to pass on to your other pigs.

And again - just because it needs to be said - make sure they're in proper quarantine i.e housed away from the others, fed last, cleaned last, etc. etc.

Their fur won't grow back until the cause of the hairloss is treated.

yep checked all their sexes and they were all seperate accordingly.

Edit, taking all 12 to vets at 250, will let you know! God help me and the vets.lol

what a stressful day, the woman told me it was 8 sows i was taking. I took them out of the hutch and didn't count. Got them home, checked them over and weighed them etc, as i got them out of hutch for the vets found i had miscounted and there were actually 9!

The vet looked it up and said the xeno 50 is not safe enough to put on pigs under 16 weeks old. They have mites but not bad so she said hold off as long as possible. There were 5 babies with the sows 2 of which look like female but they had 3 vets look at them and now not sure whether they are male or female as so hard to tell!

These are now in a pair seperate. The mum to all of these is bl**dy pregnant again and also another one they think is in the early stages of pregnancy but won't know for sure for a couple of weeks. These 2 i have put together and bought into the house(not told hubby yet!) These cannot be ivomect as pregnant.

The hair loss they think could be the conditions they were living and and bad stress, so hopefully in time it will grow back.

My ring worm boy,well i took him and they are 60% sure it's ring worm, they said everything i was doing was right and would go in time. They also said use Canestine(sp) twice a day for 3 weeks and that should really help.

Not had time to get photo's yet but will tomorrow. Got a single boar going in for castration tomorrow so back at the vets twice again!

Oh and guess what the vet didn't charge me a penny to look over all the rescue ones only had to pay for my boy who has the ring worm. How nice was that.:)):)):)):))

It is a little worrying that they couldn't sex the babies though, personally I think it is pretty easy to sex babies even at birth and i am no vet!
My vet prescribed Xeno 50 Mini for one of the baby pigs I had least year (He was 3 weeks old), funny how you get different advice from different vets.

So sad to hear that the mummy pig is pregnant again, poor girl.

Anyway glad that they have been checked over, hope they settle in soon.
 
one of the boy babies you can see he is a boy, these 2 look like female until you poke around and then it looks like a liitle willy comes out, but they have no balls(sorry) i would say they are female but won't hurt to keep the pair seperat from the other for a few weeks.
 
If you poke a baby girl it will still look v shaped just a little stretched maybe. If you can see signs of something popping out then it is more than likely a boy, baby boys do not have balls that early hence the reason petshops often get them confused. I'd imagine from your description that they are boys.....
 
the brother to the 2 we're not sure about is 4 weeks old and has a definite bulge big enough to be obvious, so why wouldn't these 2. I will take some pictures of their bit tomorrow and post them.
 
Good luck with all those poor pigs! What a mess!

I hope that they will get better soon with good care and space.

i have had many guinea pigs through here through out the years and have always sexed them fine, i am sure that in 2 weeks they will show more of what sex they are.

i have also had no problem with my vets sexing them in the past. These 2 boys/girls are really tiny infact more the size of a small mouse, smaller thann my daughters hamster! I think this is why there is uncertainty.
 
they are 4 weeks old, the smallest weighs 124g, he is quite active, the second smallest is 224g and he just sits there. I have started a new thead about them in health, but shall i feed them so goats milk to help them along? The mum is pregnant again, she has not had a break from having litters, the poor thing is sooo over bred, This WILL be her LAST litter. They are not with mum anymore. I think she has no milk and is just too tired to deal with them.

saw the piggie today and its a hard one to sex, it looks a lot liek ite mght be female but apears to hve boys bits too, i lean more towrd female tho
