BaconsPigs
Junior Guinea Pig
Hello Guinea Pig Lovers!
I am new to Guinea Pig's but not new to rescuing animals. I have one rescue cat and a rescue dog. Anyway, I rescued two male Guinea Pigs 5 days ago. They were living at my sister in laws house (she brought them for her kids) in a small hallway with 'stuff' thrown all over their home. They were knee deep in poop and their home was bare. No hay, no toys and they were very rarely handled/spoken to etc. I took them home there and then. I put them in a safe box with blankets whilst I jet washed their home and filled in with fresh sawdust and hay. We went to the pet shop and brought new food and a tunnel. We spent a short time speaking to them and left them overnight to settle in.
Over the next four days I did a lot of reading on the internet to learn more about them, how to care for them etc. I found this place and lots of useful information. I spent my time talking to the Guinea's. They're adorable little characters! My daughters named them, one Furby and one Bert. I *think* they are around 6 months old. The guinea's appeared to settle in well. I was handling them little but often and one of the little guys even began 'purring'.
Sadly when I went in to check on them yesterday morning, Bert (the noisy one of the two) was laid on his side. He had died. I was really upset, I hadn't realized how much I actually enjoyed their company and learning about them etc. I buried poor Bert in the garden. I don't think it was anything we did, he was eating well and seemed content. He did feel very thin and bony when we took him home?
My question is:
a) am I doing the right things?
b) I'm worried about how Furby will feel being on his own. Should I get a friend for him? I've read the thread on Guinea dating and found a place about 40 mins from me. Although I think this is a FAB idea I really don't have the funds to do this option :0
Thank you for reading my epic essay ?/
