Hi everyone,

I'm am just about to begin boar dating. I have looked on the rescue website at the piggies up for adoption and they are a gorgeous! However, I noticed that the vast majority/all come in pairs! Does this mean that we will have to wait until any singles come in or would a trio work? I am more than happy to take on two more piggies! I just want what is best for Charlie. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thank-you,
Kym xx

its extremely rare for a boar trio to work. Some rescues specifically offer boar dating so may have boars in singly but you would be better taking just one piggy. Again depending on the age of both the pigs they could fall out in future if one or both have not been through the hormone stages however its going to be more likely if there's 3 of them.

Thank-you for your reply. I have a meeting at the centre tomorrow and was looking on the site to see available piggies. Looks like they are all pairs :( x

Not all rescues have the time to keep their websites fully up to date, plus most rescues prefer to send out pairs unless they know it is to go with another piggy so it may be just that they haven't put their single boars on the webpage, I would wait and see what they say tomorrow.

Thank-you :) I am quite excited. She has asked me to take Charlie so she can give him a health check etc... which I thought was really nice :) Fingers crossed he finds a friend soon :) x

Its always best to take Charlie with you, boar pairings are more likely to be successful if he can pick his own cagemate from what I've heard. Best of luck for tomorrow and I hope you manage to give another piggy a forever home... of course we will need pictures and updates hehe

Thank-you for your reply. I really do hope he finds someone soon. My meeting is this evening at 7pm. I am super excited! and I will definately post pictures when we find him a new little (or big) brother :D x

Just wanted to say good luck for your dating with Charlie! As said before, rescues don't always put all their single pigs on their website so hopefully there will be a friend for him. I have just been through boar dating twice in the last few weeks and it has been such a rewarding process - my previously separated boars are now so happy with new friends - all the best and let us know what happens:)

Thank-you for your reply. Glad to hear about yours going well, that makes me a little less terrified about the situation :) I will keep the forum updated on our progress :)

xx
