image.webp Hi all its been a while since I've posted so wanted to update pics of my two adorable female piggies Cinnamon on the right and pepper on the left. I'll try to condense this: cinnamon has suffered from loose poos for months And months , many vet visits, negative stool cultures, seems to have a lot of gas. After long discussions with my vet who consulted a GP specialist we have decided to maintain her on Flagyl and metacam and nothing invasive including further testing. She eats and drinks well but can't tolerate vegetables. Now here's my question I had noticed blood and assumed it was from her however today I confirmed that it's from Pepper and I've seen it in and off. Do GPs ever bleed when in season? She doesn't appear sick at all. Thank you!
 
I don't believe that it's normal piggies shouldn't bleed ever as far as I know. When my piggy was bleeding the first thing the vet did was try and determine the cause or which system was bleeding as the GI, urinary and reproductive systems are all very close. It turned out with my girl it was coming from her intestines, I hate to say it but definitely time for another vet visit. Good luck , they are gorgeous babies I hope you get it figured out.
 
sorry i think a vet visit is needed :(

i might be something as simple as a urinary tract infection (UTI) usually cleared up with antibiotics (& often painkillers to make her more comfortable)
but she will need checking, it could be bladder sludge or stones, irritating or grazing the UT wall. or as one of mine kept bleeding it was discovered she had ovarian cysts (these although more complicated can usually be managed successfully with either treatments, diet or adjustments. or there are other possibilities. try for these first though. let us know how you get on.
The cause will make a difference to the treatment/action to be advised

I agree that it is best to get her checked. I did have one sow that bled when she was in season but she had other issues going on. Hopefully it will be nothing more than a UTI but as @GPTV says, the vet will need to check for other things.
