Help Asap My New Pig :(

I just got my new guinea pig. Came in a hamster cage, broken bowl, dusty food and like at least 4 weeks of poop. Makes me so angry! I just spent the last hour completely mad about past owners. I brought in and cleaned entire cage, gave veggies and hay. I have to make something temporary. I AM NOT LETTING THE POOR PIGGY STAY IN A TINY CAGE. This makes me so angry! I need a temporary cage idea that I can quickly do so doesn't have to spend the night in the tiny cage. My Walmart order has stuff coming, but I need a temporary idea. Any ideas that I can quickly whip up with household items? The poor pig is eating like never seen veggies or hay before, and is so skinny. Grrrr. Sorry for letting my frusteration out on here, but I needed too. I need ideas ASAP! Help!

Hi and welcome to our forum. What’s your new piggy called? I'm not much of an expert I’m afraid. But I’m just thinking... even if your piggy’s cage is tiny, & you’ve ordered stuff for him/her that’s great. But the tiny cage is still your piggy’s home & maybe it ( can I call your piggy it as I don’t know if it’s male/female) is comfy with its tiny cage. It might feel scared suddenly put in a bigger (temporary) environment. It might /will need to be introduced to a bigger environment gradually. Obviously a bigger environment is what it needs.
Also, it’s tummy is tiny and your piggy will be ever so greedy (most are) so bear this in mind when feeding it. My late piggy’s tummy never filled up!

have you abig cardboard box to hand ,that you can put the small cage into but leave it open,so piggie can wander? but still get back into cage to feel safe.

Or if you have a large plastic storage box you can put bedding etc in i use one temporarily (without a lid) when cage cleaning
As long as the sides are high enough piggy can't escape I think it would work as a temp measure better than a hamster cage

For a very very temporary cage baths seem to work well. Line them with bedding or fleece so the piggie doesn’t slip around. I know it’s not ideal, but it’s better than a hamster cage.

Good idea! I like it. Remember to add some stuff that smells of your piggie too.

We occasionally pop Ruby into the laundry basket for a few hours when she is being particulary 'difficult'.
Actually Ruby loves the laundry basket, and I think she would live in one on a permanent basis if she could!

An indoors puppy run can also make a good makeshift cage with a plastic shower curtain underneath to prevent any leakages to the floor and a bath towel over it.

If you opt for a larger space, please provide cardboard hideys and put a blanket over the area to give your piggy a feeling of protection and some bases from which they can explore. Piggies are prey animals and feel very exposed in open areas in a strange place.

How’s your new piggy getting on? Is he/she settling in okay, I know I’m a little late to comment but if you have any old chest of draws or anyone is giving away free set of draws you could remove the draws and lay the frame on its back, I’ve seen this done with wardrobes and all sorts on YouTube and actually looks nice when filled with piggy stuff, it’s kind of a cheap way of creating a c&c style cage without the grids lol

Thanks for the responses! I ended up using the bath tub temporarily Thankfully my Walmart order came yesterday (I had to put her in her tiny cage and clean the tub every time we wanted to have showers) also I got him as a 'he' but it turns out its a 'her' irresponsible people...

At least she is in good hands now. I hope that you can find her company of her own liking in the longer term once she has settled in and is well. If you have only boars, please keep her away and out of sight. If you have other sows, then you can of course try to bond her in after a suitable quarantine.
Many owners of single piggies or even a pair never find out that they are the victim of mis-sexing as it matters only if they have a mis-sexed pair. It is sadly a very common mistake that is made by people that should know what they are doing and therefore never questioned unless there is a problem. We see it regularly and have put a sexing link into our new owners' guide.
