Hi guys
I recently got a baby guinea given to me and she is TINY. I was told she was 9 wheeks old but I doubt that. Looks more like 4-5 wheeks.

She has a few scabs and lost fur round her rump and what looks suspiciously like bite marks.

I guess she could've been attacked by another guinea but I am suspicious of mange and I'm very sad about it :(

I will go to the vet with her, but I heard that baby guineas cannot have Ivermectin treatments? Is this true. I am pretty concerned as she is small and quite skinny :(

Help me please guinea lovers!

How much does the little one weigh? It's a good idea to weigh very young piggies twice weekly as it's a good indicator of health - they lose weight often before showing any symptoms.

For this little one a high nutrition pellet with some extras will probably help. Burgess Excel are very good - 17% protein and 4% oils (off the top of my head) so if your food has less then I recommend changing onto a higher one. A little porridge oats also add bulk. Don't give too much veg as it will push her food through her system quickly and she needs the time to digest it fully.

The low weight could be down to mites. The energy used in scratching is emormous when they have an infestation and they don't spend enough time eating. You can treat her with Xeno 50 - it's for young piggies and will tell you dosage on the box, it's available from most big pet stores and online.

thanks for your advice Suzy :)

She is 369g, so pretty light but heavy enough for one pipette of Ivermectin!
She's on Excell now and loves it!

Can anyone tell me - after ivermectin application, how long before piggy can have a bath?

thanks
