HELP! don't know what these noices are, and can't understand! It was like a bird and and for long. I can't even describe it. I don't really know what to do. I am calling the vet tomorrow. I am so nervous right now, i 'm even scared to sleep. It was really weird, in the beginning I couldn't even understand if that was a sound from a guinea pig, or a bird that came inside my home. :(

Apparently some guinea pigs can make a bird-like chirping sound, and it is totally fine. Are they showing any signs of illness, e.g. weakness/weight loss/lethargy?

No, when he stopped doing it, he started eating hay and acting normal. It was really scary tho and weird too.. It scared me to death, I am already having some anxiety issues, and this sound made it even worst

It sounds like what you heard was chirping....very rare. You're very lucky to have a piggy who does it...most piggy owners never get to hear it. No one really knows what it means. You'll find a few examples on YouTube....here's just one

I don't know if I'm lucky, because it freaked me out. I am checking them every five minutes from this moment, in the beginning I thought that a bird came in my house, and I was looking for it, cause it's not the first time, but when I realized that it was from my boy I almost had a heart attack :'( :'(

It must have been frightening to hear it and not know what it was, but now that you know, you can enjoy it if he does it again, secure in the knowledge it's perfectly normal, and he's a very special boy.

Believe me it was really frightening! At least I had some support, my other piggy got scared too. I feel bad that I didn't really enjoy it, the first thing I did is to send a message to my vet

Guinea pigs who do this often put themselves in a trance like state. My other girls used to rattle when Bonbon did it. Yes is can be unnerving the first few times you will get used to it

One of mine used to do it. I wouldn't worry too much. Not every piggy does it, and I think it's kind of special finding one that does
It's

My problem was that I didn't know about this "chirping" and that is not bad. So when my piggy did that I got so scared, and thought something happened

Please take a deep breath! Your piggy has been chirping (i.e. making bird sounds).

Nobody really knows why some guinea pig chirp sometimes, but your guinea pig is not ill or anything. It is a not very common behaviour and therefore difficult to research. It is also more complex than the current explanations will cover.

For instance, none of my guinea pigs is upset when my own resident chirper (6 year old Heulwen) is occasionally chirping, but they can make a dash for cover if I replay a recording that is very obviously out of its situational context.

Here are some more recordings of chirping: Guinea Pig Sounds
