hi Basil has suddenly stopped eating i have filled up his veg twice today and he hasn't eaten anything,he hasn't eaten pellets either and has sat in his pigloo all day and all night so far i slipped a carrot in his little door and he hasn't touched it at all.i think he may be depressed, he does spend time with Boris but the other two piggies don't like him so he is on his own atm apart from playtime

You sure he is not ill? Have you had a good look at him and his droppings?

I am sorry that I can't help you. Could you put him and Boris together a bit more; perhaps in a way where Basil can't get at Boris' back?

oh dear, sounds like I've missed an episode in the Boris saga... It could be that Basil is bored or missing his friend. Our late Rene would go bananas if not with Bertie and yet when together he'd bully him around like there was no tomorrow. When Rene died, Bertie was very withdrawn for a few days until we brought Finlay the Tornado into his life...

I agree, it could be that he's just upset at being alone. It's great that he's not lost weight, if he had then it would be much more of a worry. How long do Boris and Basil spend together each day? Are their cages close by? I know Boris cant get too exciteable for another few weeks, but for the sake of both of them it might be worth trying to get them near to each other.

Also, could anything have spooked Basil? I know it can take any of my lot hours after being spooked (usually my hiccups terrify them sufficiently!) before they dare to creep out from hiding.

hi um Basil and Boris are right next to eachother and spend about one hour two times a day together thats all i was told i should be disturbing Boris for.i don't think anything has spooked him my house ha actually been very calm(3 year old at grandma's) so i thought theywould be even happier.
the update now is he is still sad but i caught him eating some carrot and pellets yay:)

Good news! Looks like he is moping then, because he has to be on his own for most of the day!

I don't want to sound alarmist but are you sure he is well? I had a pig who was getting over an illness and was depressed, I mistook it for him being depressed at being alone and it turned out he was ill all along. This was when I was new to guineas.

You know him best of course, if he is eating thats great. Hope he is brighter today. :)

thanks um well i don't think he is sick i have checked all the obvious things but he is bright, alert,no weight loss i cant find anything all i can think of is that maybe he needs Boris with him?
