I am sorry to hear you have had all this worry. It sounds like you found the Bumblefoot before it got too bad. When people are making unkind and stupid comments to wind up your anxiety, remind yourself these people have personality and confidence problems and are trying to look clever in front of their friends. You are a kinder and better person than they are. Get well soon Smudge. Hugs to you both. X

Hi
I'm Bumbles mum - he had severe Bumblefoot on all feet - very bad pus filled ulcers - this was due to having two major bladder stones ops within 6 weeks of each other - I'm not too far away form you (junction 17 of the M4) - I use Rachael Mowbray at Vale Vets in Dursley - she is an exotics specialist and has guineas of her own (one of her sows she is trialling with a contraceptive implant that is usually used in rats and ferrets - but she says there is no reason why it shouldn't work in piggies) one of her sows had bumblefoot after giving birth and she has dealt with many cases of bumblefoot and all have been cured. She says the secret to curing it is long course of antibiotics such as baytril - we gave Bumble septrin as he tolerates it well and it is gentler on the stomach - and keeping as much pressure off the foot as possible - flamazine cream was used on the feet to start with - it is used on burns victims in humans - then some special padding was put on the base of the foot - it was pink on one side and cream on the other - called aluryn or something - then gauze was wrapped round the foot up to the shoulder - then elastoplast put all over (the plaster then has to be squirted with surgical spirit to loosen it - if your piggy hasn't pulled it off )- it took nearly 3 months to get Bumble sorted because his immune system was so low after his ops - cost a fortune in vets fees as I couldnt do his feet myself as i had no one to hold him for me - I felt really guilty as it can be caused by wet bedding - but Bumble lives in the lounge and I clean them out every day - didn't feel so bad when my vet said one of her pigs had had it - if your vet wants to chat to mine or see some really grim pictures of Bumbles feet she is on 01453 542092. good luck

I felt really bad that Smudge had it at first, but I feel slightly better when the vet assured me it's pretty common and that it will be fine with a change of bedding.

Sadly Smudge has already ripped off the dressing she had on, but she may be getting a re-dress in the morning with some slightly stronger stuff! I just wish she could be with her sisters tonight, they're all missing her and stressed despite them being in sight and smelling distance of one another.

She was running around and eating earlier and now that seems to have slowed down a bit, she's been hiding quite a lot. So just keeping food ready for her and will keep a watchful eye before I go to bed tonight...

I couldn't agree more .

I lived in Yate for most of my life until I went to uni (and my mum moved house) :) *waves*

Sorry to hear poor Smudge has a sore foot - she does look rather adorable with her little blue sock on! Please don't listen to people who intentionally say hurtful things pretending that they're "helping" - I put up with years of it in school and those people are so my not worth your time x
