I have two female guinea pigs, named Pepper and Ginger. Ginger was rescued from a tiny, tiny cage, with disgusting bedding where she'd lived for almost a year. Pepper on the other hand was a pet store rescue. She came from a ten gallon tank with no food, or shelter.
I rescued Pepper three months after I rescued Ginger. When I first brought Pepper home, I set up a quarantine cage in the next room where she stayed for two weeks. After the quarantine period, I set up a divided cnc cage so the girls could get used to one another. After about three weeks, I attempted to introduce them. Everything started out great. They sniffed eachother, followed eachother around, and after a few " nose-face-offs" they were getting on great. This lasted for a few hours, when suddenly they started chattering at eachother. Pepper then lunged at Ginger, and tore a bit of her ear. I seperated the two, and returned them to their seperated cage. Now, whenever the girls are near eachother, they chatter and bite.
Is there anything I can do? Is there any hope of the girls ever bonding?
Someone suggested to me that I should get another female pig, and bond the three as a trio. They said that females get along better in trios.. I just don't know about this.
Thanks in advance.
