Sat I took my buddy out and he has some white stuff coming out of his incison area. Took him to vet he has an infection! :( I have to give him oral meds for 7 days, 2 times a day, I feel so bad trying to shove that stuff in his mouth! does anyone have any suggestions on best way to approach this? I hate forcing it in there. It is cherry flavored but that doesnt seem to help lol.

The doctor could give me an answer to if he will make it, only thing is to catch it early enough. He went in Last tuesday and everything was fine, found that issue 4 days later... Hopefully I caught it soon enough. So far he seems just fine, eating, drinking, Pooping with no issues! HOpefully he pulls through!

Sorry to hear he's got an infection. Did the vet say if the white substance was pus? Is there any swelling around the incision site, any lumps? I am just wondering if it is an abscess that will need more treatment than just oral meds.

You might find these tips helpful for administering the meds, it can be tricky, but you will soon get the hang of it. I will never forget the first time I had to syringe meds to a pig...

Anyway, link for you:

I had this happen to me last year when we decided to get one of our males neutered, he ended up getting an abscess where one of the incisions was made and I had to take him to the vets who put him under anaesthetic so he could open the wound and take the pus out.

I had to syringe meds into him and also syringe hibiscrub into the wound and squeeze the lump to remove any pus and fight the infection. We were at this task for about 2 weeks, it was a gruelling and the pig didn't like to co-operate either. He was a particularly odd pig who was intolerant to veggies, drank a lot of water and had a very steady heartbeat but he came through just fine.

Hope you find a solution

Was the pus smelly? Then it could indicate an abscess that needs more treatment; it also would need to be kept open and cleaned to make sure that the infection cannot spread further into his body.

Could you please tell us the name and main active ingredient of the antibiotic you've got?

Hi a tip Ive told quite a few people on here is to use salt water on wounds. Its absolutely harmless to your pet and just helps aid healing by keeping the area clean and helps kill bacteria, as its a natural steriliser.
Boil some water in the kettle and put some in a mug (rinse the mug with hot water first) then add about 2 tbsp of salt, and stir (make sure you rinse the spoon in boiling water first) then cool the water the best way ive found of doing this is to place it in a small pan with cold water, and to carry on stiring. Once the water is warm to touch get some cotton wool balls and soak in water, squeeze some of the water out and wipe the wound, as your little freinds wound is infected only wipe once and throw it away and then repeat the process numerous times, please note that he may squeal as it may well sting. Then if your worried about him licking the salt water from around his wound just use plain boiled water to clean around the wound.
You can do this process around twice a day and it really does work as I have used it on my cat and my mums cat all the time when they have had a fight, and none of theyre wounds have ever had an infection.
Hope it helps :)
