Hi all, just after some advice as just got home from work and when I put the boys in their outdoor run I noticed that Cooper has runny poo coming from him any ideas?
Take him off any any fresh food asap. Make sure that he has plenty of hay and is getting plenty of water to avoid dehydration. You can also feed mushed up hay based pellets. Please weigh him at least once daily.
If his diarrhea is dark, very bad smelling and watery, you need to see an out-of-hours vet asap. You can get the number from your own vets answering machine.
If the diarrhea isn't showing signs of firming up within 24 hours of being on dry food, you also need to see a vet.
Thanks for the quick reply. I think it's down to veggie over load so have now moved him into a spare cage with lots of hay, dried food and plenty water.
It's the same colour as his normal poo and he seems ok in his self so fingers crossed he will be ok.
Probiotic is basically 'good bacteria' for digestion. I think you can get it from the vet or order it online. Here's a link on it http://www.guinealynx.info/probiotics.html

Oh my goodness I am so very sorry to hear your thread, I cant believe the same thing has just happened to my piggie millie who sadly died on thursday She was perfectly fine on Monday a bit of runny poo on Tues like you I took her off the veggies she seemed to be getting better on Wed but sadly died on thurs morning so very quick I couldn't believe it either. I am sure that they are both up there munching dandelions in the sky Sadly millie left her little mate lily behind who is missing her terribly.... I am frantically searching for a new mate for lily now .... Hope * r OK x
exactly the same thing happened to me at the weekend, we came home bank holiday monday night my daughter went to say good night to piggies and noticed one of the boys had runny and very smelly poo, we put fresh hay in and shut them up for night , got up next morning to find little matty dead, we couldn't believe it he was ok apart from the runny poo. but we'd said we would take him to the vets the following morning but it was too late. Now his brother looks a bit lost but is getting plnty of love and attention
Oh no :-( This is such a sad thread. I'll be sure to take mine to the vets at the first sight of any diahoea. I hope you're ok Claire - my Rooney had a bladder stone removed this week and I get tears in my eyes thinking about losing either him or his brother, Rio.
