My guinea pig is 2 year old. I noticed a cry yesterday and was not sure what it was. I had not heard it before and I have 4 GPs.
Tonight I saw my GP weak and hunch up. I have watched her eat, drink, wee and eat poo and I am not convinced on any of them. She has made this sound and hunched up 6 times in the last few hours.
What does this mean? I am worried about her, but I worry easily.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Char

Very much sounds like she is in pain, she needs to see a vet asap to find out whats wrong as guinea pigs can go downhill very quickly

Please take her to the vet right away as this is a very worrying sign. It could be a number of things but her actually showing she is in pain is a concern as guinea pigs hide their pain.

crying

I kept her out for a while and she had a wee when I put her back, she did not cry then and there was no blood.
I just watched her I feel her breathing may be a touch faster? She cried again but she did not pass a poo or wee. She seems more lethargic than the others at the moment. She has been generally not so keen on petting lately. The crying was from yesterday. I spend every evening with them so I know it is a recent issue.
She has had a hormone implant in january for ovarian cysts and has been doing very well on that front. She has a cyst on her tummy, she generally does not like her tummy touched, I am not convinced that is causing the problem. The cyst has been there for 9 months, it is marginally bigger.
The vet was happy to leave it alone.

I think a Vet visit is needed, crying indicates pain and a lethargic guinea pig is normally an ill guinea pig.

vets

I will call the vet tomorrow. I will try an get in tomorrow evening. I am really worried not sure I will sleep well, but she needs to rest without me hovering over her. When I have gone to pet her she has cried. She is not right, I was hoping to get reassurance but I was told what I know. She needs to get checked, I hope she will be ok. I hope the exotics vet is in, if not I will be concerned.

Please see a vet asap! Your piggy is in major pain and needs help as soon as you can get it. Lethargy is always a very bad sign. Tomorrow evening may be too late.

Seen vet

The vet thinks she has a bladder infection, she has painkillers and antibiotics. Hopefully she will be better soon. I am much more relaxed tonight, than last night. I have heard her cry once tonight, maybe the painkillers are helping already.

better

She is better tonight, no cries. Much happier more active, taking medication. I am so happy she seems on the mend. All going well. She is drinking more than normal though, but may she needs it?
I am so pleased I have found a good vet I trust. I will keep her antibiotics going until it finishes and a few more days of painkillers. I am so relieved my baby is looking better. My other piggies tried to lick her medication of her lips, so cant taste too bad. She does not seem to have any side effects of meds at the moment. All is good.
