Help, Cuts/sores/bites On Belly

He'll be interfering with his wound. You would if you had a big cut!

His fur and skin are in very good condition, another reason that it's unlikely to be mites. Mite wounds don't happen that quickly - he'd start off just scratching, his hair would become thin, his skin dandruffy and it would be all over, not so localised. I'd be very surprised if it were as a result of mites or any other skin condition.

Poor piggy, no this wasn't near the cut it was the other side! :( I have just had a 2 week battle to get him to eat through constant syringe feeding to gut motility meds and pain relief lots of cuddles and tempting with treats, he started eating by himself 3 days ago and yesterday needs no syribeg feeding now this. I am only a student and just spent the holiday money I saved so hard for on a dental I am skint. :( I really hope this will not be another huge expense and I dont have any savings left this time to pay with :(

@kelly Marie x Can you ask a trusted relative to drive you and piggy to emergency vet? Do not accept lifts from strangers. Since you are taking piggy to your regular vet, can you ask them for a payment plan? Piggy is solely dependent on you for his well being. Get in contact with the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals and the Royal Society for the Protection against Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) they offer free or low cost vet care and RSPCA has a small fund to help with private vet bills. Consider pet insurance, look at my vets online, the site is mvol.com Please take your piggy to the vet. Keep us posted

All the bedding has been changed now clean and fresh! Have checked his belly again and they look drier now, like he hasn't touched them for a little while, fingers crossed they stay okay overnight, will change all the bedding out in the morning when I give him his pain meds again. Still seems a happy chappy! Now tucking into a nice fat slice of cucumber

Will judge wether I want to put him through a 2 hour train journey tommorow from if they have got worse or better. In the meantime eg tommorow morning will definatley be making a phone call to my lovely vet who is wonderfully understanding about my location and lack of transportation. If I can hold off until Tuesday without putting pig at risk I shall otherwise more drastic action shall be needed :(

He has proven himself a tough little cookie the last fortnight and so positive vibes for my Barney tonight! And I shall try to stop fretting long enough to sleep!

Okay so on Monday morning I looked at his belly and the wounds had scabbed over so I rinsed over them and put fresh bedding in his cage. They looked better and he still looked happy and so I left him for the day just cleaned them and changed the bedding before bed time. Continuing with the metacam also, rang the veta yesterday and she didn't sound overly concerbed and recommended I continue as I was. And so yesterday I did the same again and this morning when I checked one of the scabs has come off where he has been fiddling and it looks like New skin underneath it and it looks all closed up, the top smaller one has still got a scab on though. Will keep monitoring him but would expect (as long as I don't see any signs of infection) that they should be all healed up in a couple of days :)

in the mean time Barney is very upset that he can't go out on the grass today and gets very mad at me when he hears the back door go and he doesn't get to jump down the ramp out of his cage and into a towel and carried off to the grass paradise. But other than be grumpy about that. Safe to say happy pig!

That's good news, is he no longer sensitive when you touch his back either? It was this that made me think mites.

He just kinda seems a bit jumpy all over tbh which Is why I also thought that, but he's not scratching excessively now and I think he is maybe just getting grumpy with me. It has been a good 3 week's now since he was ill and he has been poked prodded, forced fed, given medicine and forced onto weighing scales twice daily maybe he just doesn't want me to keep fiddling with him lol!

His fur and skin looks very good tho, I am keep a close eye on him so will notice if anything else changes

Also I don't suppose any of you have the direct contact number for either the wood bridge or Ipswich rodentoligist? I have emailed vedra over 2 weeks ago and although his teeth are okay at the moment they won't be forever and I would like to be prepared so I don't go into piggy panic mode when it happens

I don't know but if you lot are anything like me then I like to know who I'm talking about so this is a PIC of Barney recovering with cuddles this morning!
As you can see he looks lovely and bright. He is also getting back to being the little fatty he was before his dental!

I don't think anyone on here is likely to have it. Can you get to Northampton at all? There is a brilliant vet who can do conscious dentals called Simon at the Cat and Rabbit clinic. Was it a rodentologist who did his teeth before?

Awwww what a cutie & such a pretty Mummy too :) Have you tried texting Vedra? She will be more likely to answer a text :)

He is very handsome! I can't very easily as I dont drive :( which I why it would be brilliant if some had the number! I can't text her until I'm a member and i don't want to pay to join to be told there is no1 near me. How much does the clinic in Northampton charge as with a ga my total was 250 for dental just gone! Only had the money for that and myself and partner were about to book a holiday, luckily my other half loves the pig as much as me or that would not have gone one well and with re prescript of mtacam and the x2 critical cade he got though its now totalling 275 and so I hope his cut heals up to avoid that sort of outlay again too soon!

You don't have to be a member from what I remember, I do have her mobile if you need it, I'll pm you. However Simon really is the better option if you can, he also does dentals without using GA but you would need to speak to @furryfriends Excellent Adventure Sanctuary to find out more, as your piggy may need a GA for the first dental & then subsequent ones might be maintenance type ones, done conscious but I can't be sure, so Furry Friends is the best one to ask :) I think you need 50 posts on here before you can pm anyone on here. You can substitute soften pellets for Critical care, Harringtons pellets are good , soaked in cool boiled water.

Did your vet actually say he will need dentals regularly? When was his last one done? Make sure he gets loads of hay to keep his teeth in check, Timothy hay is a good option :)

He has masses and always has of Timothy hay, the expensive one in p@h lol and I'm not sire she said sometimes they do and sometimes they don't, his molars had begun to grow over and trap his toungue. Not sure if the likely hood of it recurring. He is eating a little hay now, it was the last thing he came around to eating.

Ok it may have been a one off then :) Signs to look for if there are dental problems are dribbling/drooling wet around the mouth, difficulty picking up veggies & slowness in eating/difficulty in eating. Please weigh him daily at the same time (After meals or whatever) & keep a record of his weight & notice any changes :)

I have always weighed him weekly and seeing as he has meds both mornin and night am weighing him twice daily until he gets better! I am hoping it will be a one off :) fingers crossed!

Update everybody! The scab has come off well is hanging off with some fur and the skin underneath
Looks sore but it looks like new skin if you know what I mean..

Fingers crossed he doesn't fiddle go give it final chance to heal up now :)
