Hi everyone!
I hope you can help...I noticed yesterday that my littlest piggy Honey had a small scab above her eye, I thought it may have just been a scratch so kept an eye on it for any blood or pus, but then today, I noticed that Cocoa has a bigger scabby like crusty bit of dry skin under her eye and after looking at the ringworm topic here, and consulting my piggy care books, I am concerned that they may have the onset of ringworm. I have tried to take some pictures to show you (although Cocoa wouldn't keep still!) and if in doubt I will take them to the vet but I guess i wanted to ask here first, in case I'm just being an over worried piggy mum! I have also noticed that Cocoa sometimes complains at being picked up and sometimes kicks out. I thought it was her temperament as an Abyssinian but could it be related?20160211_cocoa.webp 20160211_honey.webp
I have 3 little piggies, all sisters that are about 12 weeks old. We got them almost 4 weeks ago. All help much appreciated!

I think you should get them checked by a vet - just to be on the safe side.

It looks like fungal, potentially ringworm (which is simply the most aggressive and transmittable form of fungal). Please have them seen by a vet for a diagnosis. Fungal has to run its due course, but the sooner you can treat the sooner you will get over it. With out hygiene recommendations you can also make sure that it won't return.

Looks fungal to me. Well done for catching it. We had some round the eyes a few months back. Used Imaverol diluted with water on a cotton pad and carefully dabbed it as directed by our vet cleared it up in no time. Brilliant stuff.

Thanks for all the help and reassurance. I'll let you know how we get on.

Just to let you know that we got on ok at the vet. It was the start of ringworm but because I spotted it so early my piggies only need antifungal cream applied twice daily for 10 days. I am so relieved. Have also ordered some virkol from amazon so I can give the hutch a good scrub down so they don't get it again. The only downside is that Rosie is fine so had to be separated from the other 2. She's getting extra attention from my daughter so hopefully she won't miss her sisters too much. Thank goodness we got a double hutch!
Thanks again everyone for your help. I've been a piggy mum for only 4 weeks and was so worried about my babies I gave myself a migraine! Call me crazy but I never realised what absolute darlings guinea pigs are and how much they affect you! Like my kids, I couldn't be without them! :luv:
