Hi!
I need some wooden houses for my boys. I could also do with some tunnels or fiddlesticks and I'd like a Chinchilla cooling tile.

In desperation I walk down to my local pet store...But they charge about 25% more than Pets at Home do.
Pets at Home are the cheapest I've seen so far but anyone know of any other places?

I mean online stores, by the way. I really need some wooden houses...They have big plastic castles at the moment and as I read...Plastic is not a good idea. Even though they're inside and always in the shade...They kind of, really stink because it's so hot and they get very warm in there. :{

I use cardboard boxes, I work behind a bar and nab all the boxes the bottles come in, I think Lulu and Daisy have a mini chedders box at the minute.

It's not particularly pleasing to the eye sometimes, but is a heck of a lot cheaper than the wooden houses. I have 2 log ones and the roofs don't stay on. The boxes are larger and give more shade, plus they tend to head butt the boxes to where they want them.

If you lived closer to bristol then you could have bought them from cavy rescue and retreat... sorry no help whatsoever!

Old shoeboxes are good (and free :(|) ) as are fleece tents. I run a piece of string along the top of the cage a few centimetres away from the edge then peg a piece of fleece to it - instant tent/ tunnel/ toy :)

That's not a bad idea! I have tons of fleece, I can sacrifice one to make a tent with.
they would probably go nuts for it, too.
Thank you.

That's not true! That was a help.
My step mum lives close to Bristol...Well, close-ish, so next time we go to visit her, I can probably rope my dad into taking me out there and I can have a look!
So you were a big help, actually :))

You never know. My dad might take me out there, fall in love with a piggy or ten and I'd be all the happier!

Thank you for the quick replies guys.
For now, I'll be going with the neato tent idea! Plus, if I make it big enough, they can BOTH share it. They don't mind sharing if they have the space to keep away from each other rolleyes

zooplus.co.uk have little wooden houses, and loads of other stuff. No chinchilla tiles though.

My piggie used to sit on the roof of his wooden house and pee and poop on it - very difficult to clean up. Such a dirty boy :red

I'm using wine boxes (nabbed from Tesco) for houses at the moment. I've made doors both ends and windows both sides so the air can circulate. :)

You can use ordinary tiles instead of the chinchilla tiles. Matt finish ones would be best as they would be less slippery.

If you really want a chinchilla cooling tile then the cheapest ones can be found here:

They are a very good make and the price is excellent. They would be heavy so I expect that postage is lots.

Aw, you guys are the best! So many great ideas and even links, too!

Thank you so much!

I couldn't get my hands on any boxes. I actually nipped out earlier to the local Co-Op store and they had no boxes for me there. I then went to the petshop to see if I could get one wooden house, as I found a hay nest in the shed, so I figured one could have the nest and the other could have a house...But they had nothing.

So I ended up buying more fiddlesticks and one of those things that attacked Joanne's Fred :(|)
Along with some deodorising wipes...Because Arnold is starting to pong a little and it's only been 3 weeks since their last bath! {:|

...So I bought everything except for what I went out to get... rolleyes

Oh wow! Those Tiles are cheap! Most places sell them for double that!
Thank you!

I use bits of drainpipe for tunnels,(you can see one in my pic) When I had chins I used cardboard tubes, got them free from the nearest carpet shop :) I also have an upturned washing up bowl as a house with a doorway cut out (edges have been smoothed off) 99p, bargain! (thats just about in pic too)

Ooh I like the idea of the washing up bowl! I'll have to steal that :)

Willow loves her pigloo and poor Pixel always gets kicked out of it - they'll be able to share a bowl! (Hopefully rolleyes )
