Hi all I really need advice!
I bought two pigs on Friday from a woman who was advertising on gumtree, they are apparently two females but when I woke up today I caught one 'humping' the other. Now I'm freaking out! I know I'm going to have to separate them but I haven't been able to pick them up yet, they're so jumpy and the freak out when I try to...I'm scared I'm going to give them a heart attack so stop trying! Any advice would be appreciated. Thank yoooou.

Girls hump girls as well as boars humping boars. It's a dominance thing. One is trying to be the dominant of the other.

It can also be because one is female and the other male. I'd reccomend trying to pick them up to check their gender.

What I do to pick my boys up is let them run into their pigloo and gently pick them up. Its the easiest and less stressful way. Good luck. :)

Hello Tiffany and welcome to the forum.

Before jumping to the conclusion that you have a male (or two) it is important that you correctly sex them yourself or have someone help you to do so. This link has lots of pics to help you.

If you have trouble confirming the sexes please have someone hold them so you can take a pic of their bits (as in focus [macro/flower setting], well lit and close up as possible). Look at the pics in the link to see what we need.

Both sexes will hump - boys because they are boys, even if they are both boys; girls will also hump when they are in season, a bit of drama (moving) can trigger a season so this could be the cause.

At the moment it is most important that they are sexed, even if it does frighten them, as our advice will be very different depending on the outcome.

Oh! I hope it is just a dominance thing then, I didn't know girls done it to girls! Lol. Ok I'll get them in their pigloo or tunnel and pick them up that way. Thanks for the reply :)
