hi guys. As some of you will know my little baby Darwin sadly passed away yesterday and I'm currently looking for a friend for his dad, Heisenberg. Heisenberg is about one and a half and I have some questions about bonding
1) what age piggy would be the best to try and bond him with?
2) how long should I wait before putting them in the cage together (I know you're meant to introduce them on nutural ground and I will)
Thank you
Also, if anyone knows of any boars around the Plymouth area looking for a new home please let me know:)

It all depends on personality. If Heisenberg isn't a strong Alpha boar he might on with an older boy (3+), otherwise I've opt for a youngster.

It depends where you get him from. If he's from a reputable rescue then you can bond them straight away, otherwise you need a 2-3 week quarantine period so see if the newbie has an ilness.

Maybe worth having a word with a rescue local to you.

I am unsure how far these are away from you and if they offer boar dating

If your lad is 1 and a half I'd either go for an older boy, maybe 3 or so as they tend to be more settled and laid back or you could try him with a baby but there is a chance that they might struggle when the youngster hits his teenage hormones in a few months time.... An older boy is more likely to be settled and calmer and an easier bond to do yourself.

Jaycey is absolutely right, you should quarantine any new arrival for a week or two minimum ( in separate air space like another room, not just a separate cage) to make sure they are not going to pass on anything to your piggy. When quarantining a piggy remember to wash hands between contact with both pigs and be aware of contact with clothing too otherwise there isn't much point in doing it...

How long you have them together on neutral territory before putting them in the cage together will depend on how things go.... If they are very relaxed and hardly any rumbling, chasing etc then you can move them quite quickly but they might need a lot longer like a day or two in a neutral pen. Remember when you put them into the cage at the end that it should be clean so it is relatively neutral with two of everything and no hideys with only one entrance where they could corner one another.

Ideally getting the support of a rescue is best because then you may have the chance to try a few different candidates to see who he settles best with as well as advice on hand from someone who knows the piggies he is meeting.

I know Littlepip's have a few older, lovely boars available for dating. I am not sure how close they are to you but the lady that runs it is a friend and very good. I can recommend them. It's worth travelling for the right piggy...

Thank you everyone for your advice, if found a piggy and I'm getting him tonight. Heisenberg is pretty laid back, he's met some other piggies before and has never chased or anything, just sniffs them and doesn't seem too bothered. I'm really hoping everything goes well when I try to introduce them, I'll let everyone know how it goes:)
