I am concerned about my piggie Hamish, as he had a dirty back end on friday, His fiur was dirty with wee so I give him a bath, but today I noticed he was dirty again. He is a rescue pig and is very under weight, and is also blind. He is eating ok and I have tried to feed him up. but he just does not seem to put on weight
Also his boy bits seem, very hard, I do not know if this is just because, he is so thin or if there is something not right with him?
He is going to the vets on Monday, but I am just wondering if there is somthing, I can do to help him now?

sounds like your piggie might have a uranary problem poor little thing all you can really do till he sees the vet is keep him clean and keep an eye on him. i hope he gets better soon and that the vet helps you.

best of luck!

When you say he is dirty, do you mean urine-soaked? This can be a sign of cystitis, particularly if he is losing weight and/or there are other symptoms. It could be a simple case of less activity, sitting in one place and not moving after he's peed, but you would want to monitor him to check he's not lethargic due to illness.

By his boy bits, do you mean penis, testicles or bum? A hardened lump inside the anal sac can be impaction, very easily managed. It is normal for the penis to feel fairly solid, there is a small bone in there called the "os penis"; if he is underweight this may be slightly more obvious.

Do you weigh him regularly? A record of his weight can be very useful. What is his current weight? How old is Hamish? Older piggies will naturally be a little more bony and frail, and it is difficult to get a guinea pig to gain weight once that weight is lost. I've heard that oats can help, but you need to know that the piggie is healthy before you try to fatten him up. You want his overall condition improved as opposed to just putting more weight on him.

Thanks for your help, I am going to take Hamish to the vets tomorrow,as I am still unsure if there is a problem with him, as when I checked on him today, he was still urine-soaked and his penis and testicle area still seem hard and different from my other piggies.
When I rescued him I was told he is about 1 year old. I do check his weight redularly and the last time, his weight was 1lb 8oz, feels very bony, when I pick him up. I did have him vet checked when I got him and the vet said, that it could because he has been neglected and that is the reason for him not putting on weight.
