Hi one of my mums boys has got the runs and this morning seems to being from bad to worst and has lost all his character what shold we do?
PLEASE HELP!
I would make an appointment at your vets as soon as possible. If he is looking ill and has puffed fur then he isn't very well. If the Diarrhea is black and foul smelling it could be a serious problem.
I think you should get him to a vet because you said it has gone worse. For mild Diarrhea lay off veggies and replace with Timothy Hay.
Syringe plenty of fluids and a probiotic would help restore a good gut flora. But do take advice from your vet first.
Bless him :-* I would keep him nice and warm and take him straight to the vets, sending lots of love and hugs :-* :smitten: Please let us know how he is, hopefully someone with more knowledge will respond to this thread
I am reading through one of Peter Gurneys books and have read that Immodium is fine for Guinea pigs but I am rather concerned about giving anything not prescribed by the vet but, knowing how devasting diarrehoea can be to a guinea I was wondering if it definately is safe before getting a bottle in for them. The book recommends 0.4ml twice a day.
I've just pinched this from Tommies Mam's thread from awhile back................... can you call the vets a.s.a.p.? you need to get piggie warm and fluids into them as well O0
All our very very best love O0 O0 O0 O0 :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
i'm going with what Louise has said..... sorry Louise just read what you'd posted 98) i was busy trying to find info and then looked :embarassed:
thank you to everyone.. have sat cuddling him for an hour syringing water into him... but he will off to the vets very shortly... will keep you posted.... thanks again x
i would keep the little mite warm and get him to the vet asap! please i am NOT on the menu so please don't eat me! but our vet NOT the one that did zoe, said once a GP gets the runs there is no saving them. just PTS. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: which is why i was such a mess when zoe had soft poops. :'( :'( :'(
really hoping your mum's little mite gets better. please keep us posted. good luck! sending hugs and cuddles to you and the little mite. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Love let me know how you go please, i'm really here i just want you to know that we're all here for you O0 O0 O0 O0 O0
All paws and pinkies crossed for the little one.......which one is it love?
Good luck at the vets. I'm with Glynis I don't like giviing anything unless I can run it past a vet first, ask about the probiotic because it seems to be popular choice to get the gut back to normal.
Thinking of you I know how horrible it is having an ill pig,
Hope you get on ok at the vets O0 in the mean-time keep him nice and warm and stay off the veggies, he'll be fine on just hay, water and pellets. O0 well done for syringing water, dehydration is a big risk with dihorrea. i would not give anything without asking a vet, but do ask about probiotics O0 :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Oh no I'm so sorry. Was he an old pig? It can't hurt to clean the hutch out to be sure. Give his brother lots of cuddles. That's awful news, sounds like it was something very serious. Hugs to you and your mum x
Oh no I'm so sorry only just seen this :'( i'd scrub the hutch just to be safe though it was probably nothing the other piggy could catch, its horrible the way they can go so down hill so fast :'( RIP little one x
we rescued him late last year along with his brother... the woman said they were about 7 months old,, making him only 13 months old but they are alot bigger than our other boys who are 11 months old... so not really sure on his age! it all happened so suddenly.. so I'm hoping its not something that will carry to all our other 10 piggies... fingers crossed this was an isolated illness.. thanks again to everyone for there advice and concerns ...x
i am so sorry that you lost him. but he knew you loved him and that you did everything you could for him. know that he is at peace popcorning around in paradise watching over you. i would scrub the cage out to play it safe. give his brother lots of cuddles. perhaps put his cage where he can see some other piggies just for company. think of the good times, keep him in your heart and he'll always be with you. 0 0 0sending you hugs, cuddles to you, your mum and to his brother. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: RIP sweet little boy! 0 0 0
