My piggy george snapped his upper insicors off on his cage bars today!

He is eating hay ( although it is not the easiest task for him)

Keeps trying to eat his pellets unsuccessfully and will eat veg when I chop it into matchstick size pieces and feed it to him by hand!

How long before they grow back? Or until he can at least use them to pick up nuggets!

I'm having awful luck, as seen in my previous post I have one post op recovering pig from a dental under ga and now this!

Oh Lord :(

Sorry to hear of your troubles... Don't stress too much. My Dott snapped off hers as well and there was blood and it was awful I couldn't see her teeth at all. Within a couple of weeks they were back and she was able to eat normally. In the interim I just mashed her pellets with a little tip of water and crushed her veg. She didn't lose any weight or anything.

I just popped a bowl of freshly picked grass in which he is munching on, I guess this and a small amount of hay will keep his guts moving to avoid statis, so I'm happy about that :)

plus hand feeding his veggies, cucumber, carrots and some romaine lettuce!

I guess he just loves his neighbor a little too much

Don't beat yourself up too much; these things happen!

Please check whether the teeth stumps are still sitting firmly in the mough or whether they are wobbling. In the second case, it is advisable to see a vet tomorrow or in case the teeth are growing back wonky.

Thankfully, front teeth grow back very quickly, usually within around a week's time. They are self-sharpening. Until then, you are doing the right thing to grate up veg and also chop up hay. You may want to mush up your pellets with some boiled, cooled water and syringe them for easier eating. You may need to hand feed more to keep the balance of fibre in his diet. Thankfully, he will be hungry and should be very happy to eat from a syringe once he's got the hang!

If you have some, give him a low dose of metacam for a couple of days (0.5 ml twice daily) to ease any initial discomfort.

PS: You can help our medical wizzes a lot if you please put the problem in the title. We are doing our best to answer every thread in this section as promptly as possible.

My Maple snapped her front tooth off when she ran into a pole two years ago
Always check her teeth now just to make sure everything is growing as it should

Hopefully your luck changes and both piggies get better soon!

I mashed up some pellets with boiled water left them until cool and then popped them in a dish in his cage. Nope, not having it!

So soaked some in water to soften them, still didn't want them.

Saw his poking his head round his bowl trying to eat one so picked one up and offered it to him... And nope, completley ignored me and continued trying to get one out of the bowl!

Don't know wether he managets. Didn't look like it.

So I topped up his hay rack and pulled the hay through, grabbed a metal ball on a hook and filled it with hay and popped tjay the other side of the cage to tempt him.

Super filled his bowl up with pellets to (hopefully) make it easier to grab one.

Diced up a slice of cucumber and a baby carrot picked a big bowl of grass and shoved them all together and he went nuts!

Defiantly not in pain because he was still trying to nibble on the bars and tried to nom a whole carrot, and the plastic dish, his house everything hard he normally does. Plus he's up on his perch watching the world go by!

I do have metacam for my dental pig currently and will keep a close eye on him regarding pain!

I also have a critical care sachet sitting in the fridge and an unopened one in my piggy first aid box :)

Glad to hear other pigs have come through this okay :)

Also I'm not sure how to change my thread title?

Thankyou everybody, just a bit stressed with 2 poorly pigs now :(
