Hello all,

In January, my piggy Juniper had a serious respiratory infection that was treated with Baytril and another harsh antibiotic. Since then, her belly and her poos have been abnormal. She doesnt eat her poos, always drops them, and they always smell really bad. Ive seen a few rare occasions where she will, but not as many as before the infection.

She still gets crackly breathing but its when she buries her head in the hay, where its dusty so I'm not worried about that.

Shes on a strict diet of hay and green bell pepper for Vitamin C as pellets make her do painful poos. Her poos are stable as is, no pain sounds, but i really want to get her belly back to normal.

Been to 2 different vets that specialise in Guinea Pigs and they cant find anything abnormal, poo tests have shown nothing either. So I think its an unstable gut microbiome or food intolerance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as vets are not helpful.
Advice on a better diet that would still give her vitamin c.

Thankfully she munches her Timothy hay constantly, overall she is healthy minus the belly and poo issues.

Thanks all

Ive tried plenty of probiotics, both in the morning and afternoon for months.

I havent tried poo soup, mostly because her companion eats them before I can get to them.

I'm worried her belly is buggered tbh. Its been a months and hasn't improved much. I'm thankful she is not in pain anymore, she may just be a sickly pig.

Hi

Please take the time to read our poo soup recipe and follow it. It also contains tips on how to get the companion to drop the very fresh, just excreted poos that contain still live health gut microbiome on demand. Do this about 2-3 times daily. It is a little bit of work but properly made live gut microbiome transfer can be more effective than any commercial products.

Unfortunately, occasionally baytril can wipe out the gut on a long term basis. :(

Thank you, I will give it a go.

I appreciate your help.

I can confirm poo soup was a life saver for our chronically dodgy gut piggy Mabel. She had nerve damage in the lower half of her spine which affected how her guts worked, we tried every probiotic on the market and lord knows how many medications to clear up the mucous and soft poops. The only thing that helped were regular poo soup feeds

Thank you!

Ive been looking at the 'recipe' and I'm going to start this week.
I'm guessing that I should keep doing it for however long as possible until shes better?

Fortunately, Fig has healthy poos for the vital ingredient.

Since you are mimicking normal species behaviour ('bum digging', 'poo stealing'), you can keep it up indefinitely. :tu:
