Help! How Do I Calm Sweep Down?

I have had Sweep a few weeks now and him and Honor are fairly settled most the time....but he is still trying to mount/ chase her allot.
Last night he did not stop! Honor was getting very uset....high pitched swueaks...he kept nipping her and constantly chasing her. It went on for about and hour and a half at least before I had to seperate them with a divider and she couldn't escape and looked so tired and distressed. After that she slept well and ate fine. Now I just undid the divider and they are back together and still constantly mounting her...nipping her...and chasing. I don't understand why he is so OTT all the time. Will he ever calm down....i hate seeing Honor who has arthritis run about round thecage trying to escape him. I am so tired and exhausted I dunno what's best. He spends so much time trying to hump her he has literally done it every 10secomds for the last 15mins they have been together again. I am getting so upset with Sweep and wondering when he will leave my baby alone :-( I hate that he is like this....the last few nights before he has been calmer ....but now he is like he was when I first introduced. She is being so submissive but he wont give in. I hate when he nips her and upsets her chasing her about.

Do I separate for good as he is so obsessed. He litrally wont stop. I am starting to hate him for this....i know it sounds horrible but I wanna cry when I seee him so mean :-(
 
Oh no I am sorry to hear this how old is sweep? Could it be his hormonal stage? I hope someone can help you with advice.
 
Sweep is Neutered and age unknown as a rescue....but they said they thought he was at least 3 years old.
 
Oh so it's probably not hormones then. More dominance. My Himalayan piggie fudge was always mounting Alby. It was all the time at first it has calmed down a lot now and only happens occasionally. I think the worse thing u can do us keep separating them as when u do and they go back in together the dominance starts again. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong)
 
Aww Jenny I am sorry. Mooli is constantly humping the girls, especially Amelia Jane and I worry as she has arthritis. I am wondering if Honor is in season as this is when Mooli will do it more. I have always thought this is just the way boars are. It is distressing to see your little one look upset.
 
If they are left to sort it out on their own then they should calm down. Obviously though if they are seriously fighting drawing blood then they must be separated immediately, if it gets to that they may never get on.

yeh I guess. I just hate it as its constant and Honor used to be top dog with her other cage mates...but with sweep she isn't. As u say its the arthritis that's a worry and her heart...when she gets stressed she gets URIs and with her heart I worry as it means more diretics to clear fluid etc.
I had such a bad nights sleep with all the squeaking and making a divider at 3am is not great. I worry for if/ when I go back to work I can miss out on a fee hours sleep because sweeep is being so naughty. He was starting to wake the house with his antics and me and my sister are exhausted today as a result.
I just want him to calm down...
 
I'm so sorry things aren't working out for you and Honor. I hope the little rascal calms down.
 
Thanks, he's just so obsessed with her. Its so stressful and i feel so guilty for Honor. I know i am probs being too sensitive, i just hate seeing him so obsessed with her. The last few days until yesterday have been fairly calm and i thought we were getting somewhere. I just wish Honor had a place to go where he would leave her alone. I love him, but hate how he is behaving. :(
 
It does sound a bit obsessive, my neutered boars do hump a lot but not to that extent. Tim probably does it more than Barney and Barley but he is un-neutered so that could be why (Sophie is spayed).

Maybe having them side by side may be better if she is miserable.
 
Oh no :( Rory chased after Abigail and got a bit rowdy with her, she had quite a lot of hair pulled out. Separated for a bit and all is fine again now.

Maybe when Honor is in season it comes across quite strong to Sweep. I hope it gets all sorted out.
 
Thanks, he is calmer the last few hours, they are both sleeping,. I think she must be in season. I will see how it goes and as you say i may separate for good if he dose not calm down.... Could this be because he has only been neutered a few months? he was neutered in early July..
I am just feeling quite down at the moment so maybe i am over sensitive. Either way i am keeping a close eye on things. I may also see if i can extend the cage and make it a bit longer...its a 2x4 cage...but may see if i can make it a 2x5 or maybe 6...if i am able to make space in my very small bedroom ...i may invest in some more grids next month.
 
That's good news, thought about them this morning. Cookie is having a strong season and has been chasing Widget all morning and I thought I hope Honor is getting some rest! It's great to hear that they are getting along well. Must be a relief for you.
What did Gigi call them - Honeep? :))

lol. Because she always gives my babies nicknames...Honor and Haven were the "two h's" and Honor and Sweep mixed together is " Honeep" :-).
Bless...glad Cookie seems to be doing well and poor Widget. :-p. Hope Cookie is still improving ! X x

Cookie is best she has been today :) Weight is 1.014g :) Must be all the attempted mounting of Widgey Woo :)
 
well its happened again after a great few weeks. After a constant 5hours of sweep trying to mount Honor and her squeeling....i have put Honor in a makeshift pen do she can get some sleep. I have had no sleep the last 5hours and I am shattered :-(.
I am so annoyed. He has been so much calmer the last 2 weeks or so...thry have even been sleeping next to each other and grooming one and other...but she was very distressed and so is my house! Woke me and my sister up...
another reason I seperated again so she can rest as over night since he has started humping her madley again her chest is sounding laboured- something she gets when she gets stressed due to her heart.
hopefully it will ease up again like last time.
I just feel so frustrated as its crazy. He was doing the odd hump during the day...but he eased off...but as the evening went on it was constant again...i managed to fall asleep at 11.30 only to be woken at 12ish and every 10mins or so after that.
I just dunno what to do for the best....
edited to add that I posted this in my old original bonding thread by accident as I am sleep deprived I am obviously not thinking straight. So wanted to add here so people could see the progression...
 
Well after a few hours appart and a few hours sleep for Honor (I have not been so lucky) Honor and Sweep are back in together and after 2 attempts to hump her, they are sat and eating hay lying next to one and other.
All i need now is to get an early night for myself...i am shattered after not being able to fall asleep...
I dont know why her seasons are so strong to him... do they die down with age? Honor is nearly 5 years old and Sweep we dont know how old he is , but he is at least 3 suspected.

Maybe it might be worth separating when she's in season and back together afterwards. She must have such a strong season to make Sweep go crazy. Rory tries to chase and mount but he ends up getting told off and getting peed in the face. Hopefully he'll calm down after a few months. Kisses for Honor and tell Sweep he's a horny little boy and needs to leave his girlfriend alone from time to time.
 
Thanks Jess, he sure is! I love him but he is bonkers.! I think i will have to each season remove her over night- for my sake (as they wake the whole house up) and hers.
They are back together and doing okay, the odd squeak and the odd mount- but he soon backs off, unlike last night.
