Hi I have a thread, my guinea pig has a lump near her genitals. I have sat her out for 40 minutes she has not urinated. I held her twice earlier and I am not convinced she has urinated afterwards either. What could the vets do tonight? When should I call them. Every Sunday night gives me horrers at the moment!

Please try not to panic! Piggies sometimes take a little while to wee if you have them out on your lap, some won't at all on your lap :) Feed her some cucumber or watery veggies & then when you pop her back in her cage, just watch to see if she wees, she probably will straight away. I have one that never wees on my lap & another that wees lots (Hence I have them out on very thick towels lol) If she isn't weeing she would be looking very ill, fluffed up & sitting in a corner etc. Usually you can spot them weeing when you put them back in their cage. Please don't worry too much until you know what the lump actually is.

She weed a large milky wee. No sqeaks! Oh am I so worried. What to do now? Vets tomorrow or vets when I get an appointment? We gave her free run of the kitchin she ran arounds lots, when she went back see weed she was watches for 2 hours til the wee came.

I'd call your vet now...and at least have a chat with them about whats going on - separate her from any other pigs, pop her in a carrier with hay and water, on a towel or something so you can monitor her urine output. From reading your other thread, it sounds entirely possible that she may have a stone blocking her urethra, which can cause a blockage.

Please call your emergency vet now and have a chat...if her bladder is blocked, urine will back up into her kidneys and all sorts of toxins will build up in her blood stream.

Please refer to this thread http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?90842-How-to-contact-a-vet-out-of-hours if you're unsure how to contact your vet in an emergency.

Edit: I'm glad she weed! Is the lump still there? Running around could have dislodged it if it was blocking her bladder. I'd be inclined to see a vet tomorrow rather than waiting for your usual vet to come back.

I had a feel the lump is still there, the nurse offered an appt in the afternoon. My mum should be able to get her there. Not the normal vet but I think they have an interest in exotics. Should I expect them all to get ill at the same time? They are all sisters. One died of ? heartfailure, one has just had cancer, this one ? bladder stones all this month.

Right - let's work through the issues:

She has (finally) weed - (good!)...it's milky (good! - most piggie wee is milky).
Somepigs take 2 or more hours to wee....especially when you are trying to get a sample for the vets or "monitoring" their output (LOL). So no problems there

Next - she has a lump and its in an area near her genitalia. First you need a needle aspirate to determine if i is an abcess/lipoma or something more. So a vets visit tomorrow/tues will be fine.

Now she's weed, she is not an emergency - but the lump needs seeing to pronto (ie within two days)

Could be a hernia, abcess, harmless lipoma, cancer of the mammary....untill the cavy savvy vets analyses it none of us can know.

You're doing all the right things.....monitor her weight and make sure she gets to a vet this week for a proper analysis of the lump
Hugs
