I put a big handful of hay in the piggies cage last night and this morning I found what I think is a dead mouse near the hay! At first I thought it might be a stillborn baby, but it would have to be an immaculate conception with my two neutered boys, I picked it up with a paper towel and saw a long tail on it. It was hard and dry with hay all on it. I have emailed the company and attached a picture. Can my piggies get any diseases from eating the hay it was in?! I’m throwing the rest of it out. It came from KMS hayloft where I have been ordering from for at least 6 months with no problems. This was the first time I ordered Timothy hay from them, I usually get bluegrass.

Oh no! I am sure they will help you out! My first order got lost and they shipped a new one. The old one was finally delivered three weeks later. They told me to keep it. Excellent customer service! Sorry this happened! I also adore small pet select! They have wonderful products! It will be at your door in a couple of days! I am not sure about diseases. Maybe ask Dr. Greenfield tomorrow? Best of luck to you and your sweeties!

Eww, I once found a dead rat in a bale of hay. We took the hay with the rat still in back to the shop and got a refund and free bag.

Sadly with the way that hay is baled, objects and dead animals can find their way in to a bale :(

If you have thrown the rest of the hay away, I doubt it will do any damage to your piggies but if I were you, I would give the vet a call and ask for advise if only for peace of mind

My vet is closed on Sunday, but I’ll be there first thing tomorrow morning for Anna to have her abscess removed so I’m going to talk to him then.

I would always throw away the hay in this instance but that might be more because I live in a city and with not knowing where the mouse came from I wouldn't know if one of the neighbours had poison down and it just managed to get in before dying (my hay is kept in the shed)

Makes me wonder how many insects are in wheetabix:sly:

I wouldnt worry about the mouse, its probably just a field mouse got caught up in the process of all the hay being prepared. And guinea pigs being herbivores i would imagine they are safe. But i would worry with my gerbils(omnivores) as they would clean the mouse up by eating it up to stop any predators being atrracted. Happened when one of my gerbils died

If you find dead mice in the same brand alot i would get angry but you cant help these things sometimes.
