Hi guys,

we have had our Guinea pig, Teddy, for a year and have just got another male guinea pig to keep him company.

We were told Teddy was a boy when we bought him and haven't thought much about it until now - we don't want the new Guinea Pig to breed!

Here is a picture of Teddy, can you help identify if its a boy or girl:

Hi! Could you please press gently on the genitals to see how the inside of the slit looks? It rather looks a bit more like a girl to me, but I would like to have a better look at the inside of the slit and see whether you can extrude a penis when you gently press from either just above or next to the knob.

Just so you can see what I mean:
Females have a knob that is slightly angular, especially when seen from the side. The knob is usually nestled in the top of Y-shaped groove.
Female inside of the slit - there are some flaps on the side and the inside of the slit is like an x:

Males have got a round button sitting at the end of straight slit; the arangement resembles an "i".
Male with extruded genitals and slit; inside the slit should be straight

How old is your baby and what is its background? Some babies are in-betweenies, so please check carefully, as we cannot simply reach through the computer screen and do it for you! ;)

That's a picture of Teddy, the adult pig you've had for a year? Judging on the age I would say Teddy is a female. Although babies can be hard to tell apart, it's generally hard to miss the testicles on an intact adult male guinea pig. Is the younger pig definitely a male? Have they been allowed together yet? If not, I would keep them separate until you are absolutely sure of both genders!
