So we went to my moms for a wedding over the weekend and we left them plenty of food water and hay when we got home I was sitting there maybe 5 hrs later and my one Guy just flopped to his side started twitching and making a really weird noise Iver googled it and it says mites but he literally has no fry spots or flaky skin or missing hair and so I’m at a loss and when I picked him up his mouth was really wet he’s had 2 of these episodes now in the last hour I think they are about 3-4 years old and the other pig is fine sorry I’m jumping around I’m really scared and my phone is broken so anyways please help me

Take him to the vets immediately if it's not too late. He doesn't sound in a good way I'm afraid.

If we could we most definitely would however we just don’t have the money I want to know how to keep him comfortable the “seizures” or whatever it is are coming more and more frequently I feel so helpless

He passed away about 20mins ago we are sad but glad he’s not suffering now hopefully his brother will be ok

I'm really sorry for your loss and I'm also sorry that when you posted it was middle of the night for the majority of our members so there was no one on hand to speak to. It must have been a scary time for you.

Please, if going away for more than one night in future, do not leave your guinea pigs without anyone to check in on them and top up their hay and water and give them some veggies.

Unfortunately when a piggy is having seizures there is nothing that we can do on the forum. It would be deemed an emergency and they would need a qualified vet asap even out of hours. It would be wise to start a savings fund for his brother and any future guinea pigs you might get so that if anything similar happens in the future you have the means to get to a vet without the piggy suffering too much

Thanks I actually just realized that this forum is for the UK that’s a great idea on starting a savings for emergencies like this and we won’t be getting anymore pigs or animals at all until we can afford to see a vet after hours in the case of an emergency

We are predominantly UK but we do have an increasing number of members from across the world. Guinea lynx have lists of vets in the US, Canada and Australia if you are looking for a new one. The savings pot is a great idea and is what I do. Here in the UK there is only one company that provides pet insurance for guinea pigs and I have 4 of them so it can be very expensive on a yearly basis plus then I'd have to pay the excess for each condition so I decided to "self insure". They always choose the worst times to get ill too. It's always middle of the night, just after the vets have closed for the weekend, or bank holidays when everything's closed.

So sorry for your.
Seizures are very distressing.
I lost a guinea pig to a brain tumour a few years ago and it was his seizures that made me aware of something wrong.
Sadly there was nothing that could be done.

Take time to grieve and be gentle with yourself now.
If you want to post a tribute to Guy the please do so on the Rainbow Bridge thread

Welcome to the forum

Will his brother die from loneliness and I was told with males you can’t get them a friend unless they were born together is that true?

No that's not true at all! You need to be careful who you match them with though. They need to get on. The best thing to do is take him to a rescue that does boar dating where he chooses his own friend and come home with him. Whereabouts are you? If you are in the UK look at the Rescue Locator at the top of the page.

What @Betsy said.

If boar dating isn't an option you might also consider having him neutered and then after the 6 week safe time match him with girls

Oh great thanks but I live in USA I'm glad to know her can be with others! Should we get him a friend or can he be happy with lots of love from us

It’s best to get him a friend. Piggies are social animals and do better with company of their own kind.

What state are you in? Good guinea pig rescues are few and far between in the US but do exist
