Hi there, I have 3 boys at a year or under and they stay in my living room in a large c and c cage lined completely with fleece.

Due to a change in my circumstances I am going to need to move home to my parents house which leaves an issue with the pigs. There is simply no room indoors for them. Which gives me two options. I could contact guinea pig rescues or somewhere like that and give the boys away - something I really don't want to do, they are very well looked after and eat like kings!

Or I could keep them and put them in my parents garage. This way they could be brought into the house every night, fed the way they always have been etc. I live in Scotland so obviously winters are cold and the garage will be cold in the winter however there is no wind and nothing else can get in. If I just put the c and c cage in there would they be ok to live in that remembering they live on fleece and have fleece tunnels and fleece pigloos etc or would it be too cold?

i am no expert but a garage is better than giving them up.. I am sure plenty keep theirs in the garage over winter.. so long as no car fumes lol x

A garage would be fine as long you can keep the guinea's warm, there's no car's parked in there and they have light :) I think someone like @PiggyOwner could advise.

Garage is manageable as you can keep them dry and away from draughts. Make sure they have plenty of hay to snuggle up in. My guinea pigs live in a hutch in an insulated shed . I have an oil filled radiator to help keep them warm .

Thank you, I thought the garage would be ok as they have all the fleece and would always have plenty of cosy places to go and also lots of hay. I just wondered if they were going to be in the garage if they would still be ok in the c and c or if they would really need to be in a wooden hutch.

this boils down to personal choice. Personally, I think C&C cages are great for indoor settings but not for sheds. I started off with a C&C in our shed but changed to a hutch when I upgraded. I feel they are more secure in a hutch and a hutch is easier to keep warm - especially if it gets really cold. We have been blessed with a relatively mild winter so far but I know I couldn't afford to heat the whole shed if it got really cold .
