I have two male guinea pig and one is older and the other one is 3 months or so and they never fight but the teeth chatter and rumble strut , what does that mean ? Should I keep together or separate them ?

One of our behaviour specialists will be along shortly, from my own pigs, I don't think it's anything to worry about, they are just establishing a hierarchy. ;)

I'm not experienced with boar pairs but I think the general rule is that if there's no blood drawn from obvious fights it probably looks worse than it is to an observer from a different species who doesnt understand the body language and they are just working out their hierarchy! How long have they been together and how big is their cage? And do you have 2 of everything (food bowls, water bottles, hideys, hay piles) to help avoid any conflict?

Hi!

So far it is not alarming behaviour.

How big is your cage? Cage size and how it is fitted out is very important with boars, especially when you are dealing with teenagers.
I would assume that the testicles have started to get ready to decend in your little boy and the hormones are kicking in.

Please take the time to carefully read through our very helpful guides; they will guide you through the next months. Ultimately it is down to character compability whether your two boys will get on in the long term, but there are things you can do avoid the more obvious flashpoints. Your young one sounds rather feisty.

Is their cage big enough for two boys? It is essential they have a large space to stop them from arguing. Two boys need a minimum cage of 150cm x 60cm.
However, as you have been advised above, so far their behaviour is not a problem.
They are in the teens and under the influence of the strongest hormones from 4 to 14 months of age, but boys will chase, chatter and rumblestrut their entire lives - it’s a normal dominance behaviour and it will simply always happen, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is a problem in their relationship.

However, you mention you have female piggies as well. Are the girls and boys in the same room? A pair of boys should not be within sight or smell of females - the presence of sow pheromones can cause boys to argue.
